D.I.D....

D.I.D....

Wanting to know if there's anyone else in this group caring for someone with D.I.D.?

We've got a family member with a very "crowded" internal world of multiple personalities. This goes along with compulsive behaviours, phobias, social anxiety, derealisation and other difficulties. The person in question sees medical and psychological practitioners regularly; it's a disorder that apparently doesn't respond to medication, and they have previously reacted badly to medications that have been trialled; I'm seeing a psychologist regularly myself to deal with the pressure and get some feedback/backup. I have a supportive husband and family, but otherwise it's hard to know how to or who to talk with about what's going on. It's an uncommon enough disorder that you have to explain an awful lot about it before a conversation can even really start, and then you run into dangerous ground regarding the privacy of the person in question.

Re: Dissociative Identity Disorder Carers?

Thanks again @Former-Member@Determined.

Long day but worthwhile.

She found it a trial travelling down, and said that she may have turned around and gone home if I hadn't been with her. That alone would have made it worth doing. Her psychiatrist is keen on getting in touch with our local public mental health unit so that they can work co-operatively instead of being in the dark or, worse still, at cross purposes with each other. Hoping and praying that they will be willing to do so.

I'm not sure she's out of the woods re. SH. It's a particularly bad patch for her. But we're all encouraging her not to give in (and letting her know that regardless we're here for her).

One funny/nice thing about the trip was that the psychiatrist's clinic is out the same side of the city that we lived in leading up to and for a while after we got married- so she had to put up with me pointing out the hire place that we got the bridesmaids' dresses and guys' tuxes from... and the restaurant that we went out to the day after our wedding.... and the ex-reception place that's now a fitness studio where we went for my end of year work Christmas party... 😛

Ta, please do.

Daughter rang about an hour ago, and she's in emergency again.

We're getting dinner together, as we are "on call" in case we need to either go in and get her, or drop by her place to pick up an overnight bag for her. 😞

Re: Dissociative Identity Disorder Carers?

Thanks all.

Home again. Hubby and I both spent the night at their place. Younger Daughter was staying with a schoolfriend for the weekend, so Hubby didn't have to be at home for her. Older Daughter was joking to Older Son about how they'd moved out of home, what was the point if Mum and Dad moved in with them instead...

We got back from the hospital sometime around 11-ish, so it was pretty late by the time we all got to sleep. Thankfully, the remainder of the night was uneventful. She's still in a dangerous place in her mind, psych services are still coming across as willing to help, but quite frankly we're all stumped as to what more could be done. Watch and pray pretty much sums it up.

Sooo tired. We're hoping we can manage to give ourselves a relax day out tomorrow.
