Waking up with anxiety

Waking up with anxiety

One of the things experience with anxiety is waking up with it. I go through periods sometimes when this happens every day. I wake up initially and I am fine only then a minute later a little, tiny feeling of anxiety then wakes up too. It’s only small. I may have a lot of time before I need to get up so I can go back to sleep, especially if I am still tired and want to enjoy some sleep. Except this anxiety has already decided it wants to start the day and that little ball of anxiety starts to grow and grow and I can’t get back to sleep. It’s a tough way to start the day. You want to start the day with a good feeling, an excited feeling.

Hey @8ppleTree 😊 despite having not as long sleep as I wanted I think it was quality sleep because the day felt more manageable and positive.

finding here has helped too I think. I just need to remember everything passes, even the tough stuff.

so short answer today was a better day and tomorrow being Friday I hold hopes the better vibes last. Journaling, meditating and I n fact went to a group yoga meditation at work at lunch for the first time in a while…

so much for short answer

have a good evening all

I’m still on a ride tbh. I went to the hospital yesterday to speak to one of the nurses in the mental health section and rang the mental health line twice yesterday. I have my therapy session today.

I’ve spiraled a lot over the past week and felt backed into a corner with everything, with my thoughts. I’m like someone running around in a building trying to find an exit from all of this.

@8ppleTree thank you so much for recommending the Michael Singer podcast - have been listening to it and some really helpful thoughts and approaches

@Me73 😁 haha They say carpooling is good for the environment!

Brainfog is annoying though. I have a funny eraser I found while op-shopping. I keep it on my fridge to remind myself that it's ok, little mistakes don't stick in the big scheme of things, and I'm still a good person 🙂 eraser

Glad you were feeling better. Hope that carried over into the weekend for you, too.

Hey @Hyperballad,

Hope you're doing ok. Good on you for continuing to reach out. It's a strong person who stands in their own corner and keeps moving. Know that you're not alone as you go through these tough times. Hopefully your therapy session was helpful. Keep reaching out if you need to.

Glad the podcast was interesting, too. I don't know if you do much writing, but I liked your piece on why language matters. Maybe you could write out some thoughts? No pressure to share though. Hope you get a breather.

Wishing you well x

@8ppleTree I have been journalling here and there, and find it useful. I love writing and when I get a moment of clarity for myself, I like to capture it. Happy to share it usually because maybe it resonates with other people as well. Together, we are stronger after all.

Hope you've had a good weekend.

Re: Waking up with anxiety

@Hyperballad Thanks, I had a nice wknd. Spent some time at the beach. The water was so clear and the sand very clean. I'm glad I made the effort to go!

I'm also a fan of journalling. I don't always have much to say, usually it's just 'wah!' or 'here's a photo of the dog/sky/garden', etc. But, it gives me a sense of continuity and helps me appreciate each day. It reminds me it's my creation, how I write it, how I respond to it all. Sad, funny, angry, happy, grateful. It's all in there.

Glad you do feel like you can share some writing. I enjoy reading and connecting through other's writing pieces, and I'm sure I can't be the only one! I must have a proper look through and see where the creative writing thread is.. 🙂

Hope this week is looking a bit brighter for you!

Re: Waking up with anxiety

My morning anxiety starts after I’ve gotten up no particular time frame and it doesn’t happen every day.

its just bam it’s there, I get the sweats, racing heart, tight muscles in my shoulders and neck, feel nauseous, I can feel the energy running through my arms, my hands shake and often end up with a headache

I’ve found listening to an audiobook with my headphones on helps a little.

ive tried doing mindful techniques but as my anxiety just hits the mindfulness techniques don’t help

Any suggestions of how to deal with morning anxiety?

The are no triggers that being on the anxiety

Hi @1978 ,

Thank you for sharing. I'm hearing you about the anxiety.

Are you able to work with strategies before the anxiety sets in? For example, make it a regular routine to practice deep breathing as soon as you wake up so as to reduce the likelihood of anxiety setting in?

I do it before going to bed. I use the Smiling Mind App. It's got a sleeping routine program which I find so helpful when going to sleep.

There are anxiety programs on the app too and they are free of cost.
