Connecting

Connecting

Hi anyone

outside of work which is in sales ironically, I have found it extremely difficult to connect with people and grow friendships, just having a coffee and a chat has been a challenge over the years which has of course had adverse effects on my recovery, time to put myself out their this site is a good start as I can "hide" while doing it, connecting with people is critical in achieving "clean discomfort" at my end 🙂

Re: Connecting

connecting is critical to my recovery outside of work...if I dont...isolation is my only friend and that will lead be back the black space..this helps but reality rules.

Re: Connecting

ahh yes, i understand i think.

Its hard to push yourself soemtimes. Isolation is hard, can you plan forwards to the next opportunity and how you might handle it?

@Matt12

You are not alone . Your story resonates with me. The three important ingredients in recovery is willingness openness honesty.

I too find it hard to connect with people too

Perhaps find some people, you feel comfortable with but even then it somtimes takes time to feel comfortable with others

Perhaps taking a hobby mite help you connect with people & also yourself.

I have really big walls too and I am working on this too. Over time you should be able to connect better to your body and therefore connect better with others.

I feel like I am rambling. Sometimes its good to push through other times you need to stand back.

Re: Connecting

Yeh Matt. I run on the premise that professionals act as they must and not as they feel. I walk through that door at work and the walls go up. I'm successful in sales & customer service, then I go home to collapse and cry. I can't bring myself to fall apart in front of colleagues or family, fear of judgement and shame. I get up and go to work so they can't judge. Not sure how much longer I can keep up the charade so I thought this is a great place to look for some acceptance.
I believe we are among friends.

I have been doing it for many years and it's time to start the move, then again ?

Re: Connecting

funny thing connecting, you must or you fade away, very difficult to do when your my age and living inside my head. My wife of 28 years told me I'm not moving back as I am to moody, not all correct.

Now I am truly along lost in transition, taken something as the wave building is big, might see my doc next week for the usual advise or just fade away into the background quietly
