**Trigger warning** What are your experiences with a Complex PTSD diagnosis and treatment?

**Trigger warning** What are your experiences with a Complex PTSD diagnosis and treatment?

Hello Everyone

Just wanting to start a discussion on Complex PTSD and what it is like seeking treatment, the stigma that is associated, or the difficulties this diagnosis creates in life?

It would also be useful for people to share some some self-help tips to help people self-care and manage their symptoms?

There seems to be a lack of research and knowledge about Complex PTSD, so I thought it would be useful to start talking about it.

Re: What are your experiences with a Complex PTSD diagnosis and treatment?

@Former-Member Your initial post was spot on ... re inclusion in DSM and ICD

I respect your withdrawal .. but wanted to acknowledge the extreme importance of that post.

I am not in a delving into bad memories mode .. as I need to be functional with Various an complex holiday planning.

I am also planning on working on that diagnosis and maybe aspergers ... with new pDoc .. but dont see him til March.

Have not seen psychiatrists regularly .. since 2001 since they keep telling me to go and I am fine, regarless of being heavily suicidal .. It was actuallly my Disability Job Network Provider who gave me the first immediate appropriate feedback .. She said I i not have to work with MY suicidality on my own .. that was 7 years ago .. at least she helped me get my pension.

So not much treatment .. and in my book .. quite a bit of denial by highly paid and highly experienced mental health professionals. I dont think they want the work of teasing out the layers .. as they have to access level of compassion and integrate it with their own cognitions .. to actually help arrive at a shared formulation .. but I work with whatever I can get .. no other choice. and I wait til fashions change ...

Eg Sandor Ferenczi .. is gaining better reputation ..

for his work with real trauma of sex abuse in childhood etc etc

@Appleblossom

think I might jump out too. Probably been on way too long anyway (now 6 hours straight) - has been useful but completely understand the need to focus on other things re holiday planning etc. Might grab some dinner later on Friday feast.

@BlueBay still around if you need - will happily jump back on if you need to talk more - just might take a little time to get back to you.

@Former-Member

maybe catch up later tonight - need a break!

Think I'm out too for now. Triggering for me especially now Xmas time. I'm sorry.

This thread, although hard to read for me as it triggers a lot, has been extremely helpful.
I'm wondering if I too am suffering from complex PTSD. I'm just not too sure where too from here.

@Former-Member

Do you have a GP or PDoc that you can talk to?

Re: **Trigger warning** What are your experiences with a Complex PTSD diagnosis and treatment?

@Zoe7 My GP is amazing. I find it so hard to talk openly about my past (and now my current situation), I've tried online counselling but they were for smaller issues, apparently mine are more complex.

My GP is amazing also - made it alot easier to open up a little. I found writing some of it down, giving it to her and asking her to wait until I'd left to read it worked for me. The next time I saw her I knew she had some information and I didn't actually need to talk - we just got on with referrals and making sure I was ok. After seeing the psychologist each time I'd check in with my GP either that day or the next (sometimes she'd just call to check on me) and very slowly I started to be able to let her in more.

The sessions with the psychologist are really difficult - taking them slow and steady. Not pushing too much - need to deal in my own time and we just stop when I've had enough. Did the same with psychologist - wrote a lot - still do. Really helps to get in out - but also very draining.

Maybe you could try writing some down to give to your GP too!

Thanks @Zoe7 for that.
I have written in the past, but guessing I may need to start doing that again.
Or I'll do some research on it, and see if I can make some sense of it.
I wish I could just type what's happened and someone tell me what's wrong with me.
