Hey everyone, there's a few of us around that have spoken about their poetic streak, so I decided to create a space for folks to share their poetry!!

You're welcome to share any kind of poems or small pieces of creative writing. Feel free to share some of your darker works if you have them, so long as they still remain within the bounds of the Guidelines, and please include trigger warnings and use spoiler tags as necessary.

It's hard to be vulnerable. I wanted to write something fun

Let me share about my chicken

He is the rubber kind

He is actually a dog toy

That has become my bell

I take him into shopping centres

To alert others to shut up

Quit taking up all the space

So I can just get past

Now I do it at a distance

It works just like a bell

I used to use bells

Until they were drowned out

Now I squeeze the rubber chicken

It actually does work

It makes the children laugh

And it makes the adults move

When I forget my chicken

Within minutes I tend to say

"I should've brought the chicken"

How it frustrates me

I had fun finding the chicken

Testing out the dog toys

Figuring out the noises

And which would sound the best

I spent half an hour

In the reject shop

Soon to be dollarama

I shall miss the name

Testing out the squeakers

On the different toys

From pigs to ducks to bones

I went with the chicken

I do get nervous with the chicken

When I enter a reject shop

Will they think I stole the dog toy?

But they know me well enough

Maybe I shall paint it

Make it quite distinct

Though still completely functional

And still without a beak

@avant-garde this made me giggle. I remember when we talked about this, I think around Christmas time cos of how busy the shops can be then. I love your poem and your use of a rubber chicken to make people move ☺️

What's wrong with asking people to move? I'd be quite upset if someone used something like a rubber chicken to "tell" me to move. It's a little offensive don't you think?
