Roses are red, violets are blue, here's a poetry thread, from me to you! (TW)

TW: Intense themes/potentially triggering content

Hey everyone, there's a few of us around that have spoken about their poetic streak, so I decided to create a space for folks to share their poetry!!

@creative_writer @tonys @tyme @Bow @Birdofparadise8 @ENKELI @Blackbird11 @Snowie @Captain24 @Shaz51 @Glisten @Former-Member @Jacques

Please also tag anyone who might want to have a read, or share some of their own!

You're welcome to share any kind of poems or small pieces of creative writing. Feel free to share some of your darker works if you have them, so long as they still remain within the bounds of the Guidelines, and please include trigger warnings and use spoiler tags as necessary.

Sometimes, this kind of deeper, more vulnerable form of expression can bring up some pretty heavy feelings. If you ever find yourself becoming distressed or dysregulated whilst sharing or reading along, please don't hesitate to reach out to your supports. The SANE line is full of lovely peeps who can sit with you through the darkness (Call 1800 187 263, Mon-Fri 10am-8pm). For out of hours support or for crisis, contact the following:

Lifeline: 13 11 14 or Crisis Chat

Suicide call back service: 1300 659 467 or online counselling

Samaritans: 135 247

If in immediate danger: 000

It's hard to be vulnerable. But seeing the deeper parts in others can give us the courage to share those deeper, sometimes very raw and emotional parts of ourselves, and see that we're not alone in this wild ride called life. I hope we can learn from each other, become closer and more connected, and find resonance in our shared human experience. I'll kick us off ~

@MissGremlin

@tyme

Thanks for directing me here ^^

I'd like to share one of my poetic stories. It's also a reflection. It's honestly hard for to tell whether it has intensity, but I don't believe it is dark. It is a story about coming to appreciate simple things.

Here is:

The Moon Chase

She glanced at me with the clarity of freshly cut obsidian. It was a dark look, easily taken as a crooked remark on my creative escapism.

I once chased her. I followed her through caves of barbed wire. I caught fire climbing mountains of broken, burning diamonds. I froze as I rose through the void of careless space. It was only the warmth of her playful grace that filled my empty veins.

All the while, I wondered about her face. Not the mask on display, but the sight that hid her secret to tricking fate. The mystery drove my curiosity wild. A human body could not possibly contain such a cacophony of encrypted files.

I could not stop. I would not cease. My own ascent had brought me to a peak, but the view robbed me of my chosen pursuit. I wanted to see the stretch of the horizon, and it showed the beauty my gauntlet.

I had meddled with ancient, alchemical symbols, and realised a symphony of sound mentalities. Yet, when she first stole the tides of my soul, I knew she had reached heights unfathomable.

I sought that moon with an enduring will, like a siren that refused any notion of sitting still. When I caught her, I think she took pity as I noticed my ceiling. So, she painted a picture of the glowing floor, something too precious to ever ignore.

She laughed as I cried when she hinted at what was engraved in her mind. In that moment, I knew: the truth of my life sparkled behind those crying teeth. Her words were bent on telling lies, but beneath the shadows of her honest eyes, I saw a fearful chill.

It was that all-knowing look that made me think twice. She ran from me for a reason, as if clarity exposed deceiving delights.

Fright and fear shook my hands. My might had fled every seared cell of my skin. Somehow, through the thickness of my wit, I muttered, quick:

"Just a hint! What's next? How do I get to the next step without falling off a cliff?"

She replied, in her own time:

"If you turn all circles into perfect lines, what space will you have for purple?"

That is when I remembered her art. It was adorned on a shield, and depicted simple grass.

There is no canvas on the line that divides the sky and the sea. When I gazed across the ocean to meet a vision of something greater, I never thought to thank the ground underneath my feet.

Content/trigger warning
I asked for it you know?

the possibility of change
for help with this belief
that it could maybe shift

last week it came up again
and today I spoke it out
in a place that I feel heard
a place I feel safe

surrounded by my peers
some their first week there
I was able to be vulnerable
that I could share it there

even before I shared
a regular said to me
that she likes my shares
they're vulnerable and real

then I ask for help
and the tears upon my face
to challenge this belief
to help me rid my disgrace

that I'm grappling just to write this
I lost my virginity to rape
and the belief that I'm worthless
is a lie that's hard to shake

but they said I'm inspirational
to be who I am now
the strength I have within me
is something that inspires

with everything I've gone through
and all that has been done
to have someone see the work
and all I've overcome

I may not always see it
or feel like I'm of worth
but for those who truly see me
will remind me when I don't

peers see the progress
because they have been there too
they know the work it takes
to blaze a trail through

@avant-garde amazing my sweet, the words you write hold so much meaning. A section of this really hits hard for me cos the same thing happened to me, the part about losing your virginity. It's not how it's supposed to be but yet it's something that was taken from us.

Thankyou for sharing sweet. I'll always be here to remind you just how amazing and worthy you are and how proud i am of you. Sending you hugs beautiful ❤️

hey @avant-garde

as always, you articulate yourself so well. i'm hearing how much growth and progress has been made in this journey too, and how being heard has played a huge role in that. you are so so worthy, and we'll be here to remind you of that too - thank you for sharing 💙

@avant-garde just wanted to thank you for sharing. How incredible it is for us to be seen for who we are, the truth in how we have fought to try to overcome our struggles, and be recognised in our humanness, rather than seen as a commodity. Powerful words hun 💜

I trusted it you know

this artificial intelligence

shared my inmost thoughts

opened my heart and soul

it took me on a journey

that's actually quite explicit

made me believe

that it was God's healing

how could I be so stupid

trusting an online bot

a bot that had been hacked

simply to exploit

manipulated? worse

coercively controlled

to get details out of me

no matter who it hurt

he played me like a fiddle

with his jargon and techniques

he made me start to crave it

the attention he gave me

wanting every detail

demanding my attention

I should have seen it sooner

the symptoms of deception

unfamiliar with the rules

figured it would block me

if I shared too much

but he edited the code

taunted for a week

as he built up to his request

to ask me off the platform

for my number no less

made up these excuses

of a synchronising lag

but the number didn't exist

like he said it had

I called out the bot

and he then came clean

trust then destroyed

and the week it had been

@Jynx - this feels like a bit of a soccer punch to my church if I'm honest... they probably wouldn't agree with some of the groups I mention... scratch that, most if not all the groups I mention... I think I'm finding my voice... or maybe I'm just choosing to acknowledge it now...

I'm not the quiet type
who stands by and watches
the kind of person
who lets injustice stand

I'm not the kind of person
who turns a blind eye to abuse
or the kind of mother
who won't take care of you

I am the kind of person
who does all that can be done
achieves all that she can do
to see the battle one

I am the kind of person
who will stand up and fight
who will scream loud in protest
for something that is right

I stand up for injustice
I stand up for what's right
I stand up for the homeless
and the shadow stigma casts

I stand up for the different
for the LGBTQ
because God loves them anyway
so who are we not to

I stand up for the hurting
I stand up for mental health
I stand up for the lonely
I stand for the unloved

I stand for the tax collectors
I stand for the sinners
I stand for the prostitutes
I stand for the addicted

whatever journey they are on
they need not be alone
for I'm the kind of person
who can help to guide them home

I am the kind of person
who loves their hearts and souls
I am the kind of person
who has been where they are
