looking for a moderator

looking for a moderator

Hello Moderators.

I am fairly knew on here, although from my lengthy stories that I have posted and my sensitive reactions at time I think I am becoming known.

I only ever mean the best for all.

I would like a post or even a section on the opening page on instructions "how to find a moderator if you have concerns".

When going to the email section, it states there will be a response within up to 2 days.

There is a section which is called inappropriate content.

To me, this page is lived experience, therefore old and new users have experienced mental illness at some stage.

As a new user, I was drawn to this site because I am struggling at the moment with not only my own health but that of my sons.

I am not in a good place, i would think this would be the same for most new users.

Therefore I or we dont have the calm, collective, rational thoughts that we might normally have. Our reactions are more likely panic, or dont have the energy, or too upsetting.

So keeping the above in mind, if read a post and have concerns, ( which may or may not be warranted) nevertheless want to help the person, email within 2 days does not suggest urgency. inappropriate content means exactly that.

Could there be something put in place perhaps even titled "if you have any concerns for another on here" or some other title you prefer, we are able to help by acting quicklywhich is what most unwell people need brief, clear, concise directions on how to help.

This is so important to me because not only have i highlighted help for someone who might desperately need it but also has set my mind at ease. When I couldn't find that my anxiety levels were exasperated.

This is not a criticism this is a suggestion.

It is probably written in the wrong place but for me as i am still struggling navigating and finding things on here it is the only option i found.

Re: looking for a moderator

Hi @Former-Member

I often use the 'report innapprorpriate post' button and always feel like i'm getting someone in trouble too lol... despite knowing that the mods are not punisherators and are always calm and helpful! sigh! i do wonder whether or not it might be possible to change the wording to 'alert moderator to post' or something a little more broad like that.. something a bit more open.. as you say @Former-Member often its not 'inappropriate' it's out of concern that we want to alert a mod.

@CherryBomb @NikNik What do you think?

Thank you @Former-Member

Re: looking for a moderator

Hi @Former-Member

Yes you are definitely becoming known as a regular and very valuable member. I can hear how much care and concern you have for your peers and I know it is reciprocated.

in terms of flagging content, yes there is the button that says "report inappropriate content" which sends us an email with the post you are concerned about. Or you could email us directly on team@saneforums.org but as you say with both of these avenues there is a delayed response of up to two days although most of the time we will respond much quicker than that time frame.

Importantly though, as you say it does not suggest urgency as we are not a crisis service, so if someone is in trouble and needs physical help or a check in then we encourage all members to seek that support immediately. Unfortunately as a forum out scope is limited. Thats why we post the crisis support numbers like Lifeline, SucideCall Back and Mens Line so often so people can get that immediate response because we do worry about people and our ability to support is limited to emotional support.

However I completely understand that as a member and a friend it would be so diffiuclt to sit in that space of no knowing and feeling helpless but all I can suggest is that you post to the member (as we do) telling them their pain is heard and they are cared about and encouraging them to seek appropriate immediate support

I hope that makes sense?

Re: looking for a moderator

Hi @Former-Member. As you know I am not a moderator but just a member and I remember how daunting it can be in the early stages of being active on the forum. I have only been active on here since April this year. I remember feeling a little distressed and there came a time when I was taking on everyone's emotions too. I know @Former-Member went through it too. I just wanted to reassure you that things work out well. When I have been scared for someone here I hit the 'report inappropriate content' to report it. If I'm feeling ok I might engage with them and recommend they talk to lifeline or suicide call back service as they are more able to deal with crisis but even from my own experiences with these services sometimes people are needing something different. I guess the advice I was given and I had some awesome role models here was to look after yourself first on the forums as well. I appreciate you are looking for some more user friendly ways to navigate the forum and seek help when required but I just wanted to you that you are doing a fabulous job contributing on here and that lots of us burn out in the beginning a bit when it seems overwhelming. I hope this helps. Hoping a moderator can help you with what you want too. 💜🤗

Re: looking for a moderator

yes thank you. I did respond to the person but because of the mess I am in the moment I panicked. I didn't want to write on a moderator post in case the person saw that which might tip them over all the more if they were feeling that way.

Re: looking for a moderator

thanks for sharing that you were taking on everyones emotions too in the early stages. I am my own worst enemy at that. I just have this image in my head if I say to myself step back. someone else will help, what happens if that someone else doesn't for whatever reason and something terrible happens.

Re: looking for a moderator

In my experiences @Former-Member, when I have not been in a good headspace or worried about a post, someone always seems to step up and know how to approach much better than I could have at that point in time. I'm thinking numerous times here. We will never know what really happens but can only hope for the best. It has taken me a long time and lots of stress to get to a place where I am mostly comfortable and I gain much more than I lose by being on the forum.

Re: looking for a moderator

I felt that way too @Former-Member

So I was determined to answer all unanswered posts, but then began to let go that responsibility as lots of other people began responding to people in need .. and I knew it was ok to step back.

We cant actually fix anyone's issues but the difference in not being alone whilst working out our best approach to problem solving is huge. Anyway thats my belief and style.

Re: looking for a moderator

yes I think because I am in so much pain at the moment and I often take on others pain I hate to think that there are people who have written on here in desperation because the mental health system in this state and country is just not working. I just want them to know that they have been heard. I take on board what you are all telling me as well though. I might be very determined but I can listen and learn too . thanks yet again all you lovely lovely people who I am so lucky to have in my life at this moment. I know that some will float in and out and that is okay too. butterflies xxxxx
