My hubby has been diagnosed with lots of things and has had MI all his life

do you find things goes ok and i start to feel confident and wanting to go forward and then everytime something always happens to upset it -- sometimes I think is it a controlling thing ?? that he wants to be in control ??

@Shaz51 that is sad. But he has you and mr shaz which is wonderful. He will hopefully cherish that over the cutting off from his real mum. Btw I am adopted and I wouldnt swap my adopted mum for a billion dollars. She is my real mum in so many ways:)

@Shaz51

just reading some of this thread...gosh! Husbands mental illnesses are heavy loads to be carrying! Especially for you living in a small town.

About friendships etc and socialising etc I think the modern world doesn’t help much. But I’ve been trying to meet the people I’d like to be better friends with where they’re at. It’s been helping. And I’ve even got my husband on board (despite him generally liking to be ‘at home where it’s cozy’...we always quote that line from a movie, it’s so him). So I have been trying to think of what people like doing and asking them to do these things (it sounds obvious but it’s helped). Like asking some friends to join us on a short and simple bushwalk. They loved it, even my friends husband who hates socialising. The activity really helps and it’s not expensive, and it’s where they’re comfortable. And as I was having so much trouble finding bookclub members since I moved I’ve asked two women who I know were interested but didn’t like to commit, what they would like to read together - we’ll make a time to meet later, but I’m reading their choice, no obligation to read anything else, and it’ll help them get through their book too. It’s taken me so long to figure this out, and it’s so much harder than in a big city in some ways. Talking about books has been really helpful in my bookclub where we used to live. We read along with the ‘Well Read Mom’ bookclub list and there was one book ‘Giants of the Earth’ about mental illness that touched me so deep because even though it wasn’t about the same kind of mental illness, I so related to the husband whose wife was so terribly unwell. Getting off track...my speciality haha:)
