@Shaz51

Do you think Mr Shaz over spending?

Having ADs without mood stabiliser can cause some patients to switch to mania or mixed episodes. When I did Mr D's MI history there was a direct correlation between ADs and hypomania, this info that I gave to pdocs led to his BPii diagnosis.

Re: Ups and Downs of Husband`s Mental Illness

Mr D sad, not feeling well, not surprising after losing his best mate @Shaz51 but he is not marking this on his mood chart.

Hard to tell but think he is more anxious since having to drop dose in one of his meds due to potentially serious treatment emergent adverse side effect, will see what options pdoc offers at next appt (not sure if I need to see about bringing it forward) but do not think options are particularly thrilling.

Hey @Shaz51 and @Former-Member

thank you for the links @Former-Member

all my life i was diagnosed as having depression. with my new psych he made the diagnosis as bipolar 2. i still feel strange saying it though as ive always referred to it as depression. anyway, from what ive read (and it makes sense) is that a lot of people with bipolar are misdiagnosed as having depression as the patient will moreso see their psych when they are depressed not necessarily when they are in the hypomania phase. and also, not really think the hypomania phase is anything to be concerned about. looking back over the years, this is how i was. my moods would switch very quickly, from happiness to sadness and crying in a matter of minutes but not knowing what was going on. and i definitely had phases of hypomania. i assume though that with bipolar 1 it is more obvious when there is mania? im just guessing though - not sure. i am on a combination of AD, mood stabliser and low dose anti psych.

xx

@Shaz51 the article below is about research into the self care side of things that can help people with BP - noticed how our pets feature highly, but also creative things.

In many ways it seemed to parallel some of the self care things we need to do as carers and got me thinking as to what Mr D & I do in relation to pets and creativity. Mr D walks our dog but I take care of feeding and practicalities. He does not really have any creative hobbies, he enjoyed study more and often had a course on the go and when younger he enjoyed playing sport. I used to do more creative stuff but ended up with things I did not need, our garden then became my focus.

I know you have taken some lovely bird and insect photos from your photo thread and that Mr Shaz likes photography too. Do you do things with your pictures such as making them into birthday / other cards?
