Ups and Downs of Husband`s Mental Illness

Ups and Downs of Husband`s Mental Illness

Hello @PeppiPatty, over here my special friend xx

Hello Everyone

Love to hear from others on the forum if you experience this

My hubby has been diagnosed with lots of things and has had MI all his life

do you find things goes ok and i start to feel confident and wanting to go forward and then everytime something always happens to upset it -- sometimes I think is it a controlling thing ?? that he wants to be in control ??

Don`t know if I am making this up , but i have that feeling ,

Re: Ups and Downs of Husband`s Mental Illness

I am and thank you so much for asking. I’m so happy to have him home. They did help with the meds but caused him a lot of stress. As soon as he left all the stress lifted. It was only 11 days but felt so much longer as he really struggled there. He said it didn’t feel real on the drive home and everything looked foreign, like he hadn’t seen it in years. This was the worst experience he’s had in terms of hospital care but it’s made him very thankful and appreciative of our home.

Oh dear @Sanatorium keeping Mr Darcy out of hospital is one of the goals of his treatment plan. I too feel for patients without an advocate. We are possibly going to have to change one of his meds as a monitoring threshold has been crossed, I am dreading this as he has not had a good run with adverse effects.

Re: Ups and Downs of Husband`s Mental Illness

Neither has my Mr D. Twitchy legs so bad he can’t even sit let alone sleep. Drowsy. Forgetful. And sorry to get personal but problems with impotence that is a huge blow to his confidence. With my brother it was weight gain and hair loss. Some at the hospital were so heavily medicated they couldn’t communicate and their movements were slow and awkward, yet pacing, pacing. Dry mouth, rashes, dribbling, problems with eye sight. And people wonder why they often stop taking them. Advocacy is such as issue now. I talked to a couple about contacting a legal advocate and about their rights. None of this is made clear to them. They’re kept there indefinitely and are so compliant out of fear of being denied leave or delaying release. Sorry, I feel a rant coming...it just defies all decency

Re: Ups and Downs of Husband`s Mental Illness

I hear what you are saying @Sanatorium23, Mr Darcy got put on one involuntarily that caused bedroom issues, got him off that one as soon as we could, have studied up on the side effects as there are a few APs that do not affect prolactin levels, but always trade offs with other side effects (don't know if one causes prolactin problems how likely it is that others will).

By law patients must be given the info about being involuntary and access to advocacy and free legal advice but they are often in no state to understand it.
