My hubby has been diagnosed with lots of things and has had MI all his life

do you find things goes ok and i start to feel confident and wanting to go forward and then everytime something always happens to upset it -- sometimes I think is it a controlling thing ?? that he wants to be in control ??

Got some sleep last night, hoping for a little more tonight, how did you go @Shaz51? Saw @Faith-and-Hope got a bit, hopefully a bit more tonight.

@Determined did you feel OK after going through topic Tues? Think of you often as I know you have been struggling.

Hi @Former-Member, how are things going for you and Mr Darcy? Been thinking of you also. Trust things are more settled for you.

I did see that you and @Shaz51 were a little off after Tuesday and wanted to say somthing but couldn't find the words.

Re: Ups and Downs of Husband`s Mental Illness

I'm feeling a bit precious after going through the discussion late Tuesday night. I did the survey this afternoon also which hasn't helped. It resurfaced a lot of emotions I thought I had buried. Little communication and lack of closure for me is an issue. I have a councilling appointment next week, hoping to discuss it then.

I lost a cousin to suicide earlier this year also, thinking about that was harder than I would have anticipated. His farewell service was on the day of one of my darlings attempts, at the time I had concerns and was nit leaving her alone so I was I was unable to attend. Had I gone and not stayed home... ? Trying hard not to think about it.

We also had a neighbour suicide a couple of years ago that at the time in hindsight I potentially had an opportunity to prevent. Lots of what if's.

Hey Bro
We have had 2 nights with no howling, Mr D still low, trying to find things for him to do to keep him busy and distracted, today he wrote out Christmas cards.

How are things in the @Determined residence?

Re: Ups and Downs of Husband`s Mental Illness

Busy and distracted is what I need to be at the moment @Former-Member but the weather is not on my side. Been windy and wet so stuck indoors. Have been hoping to get out in the boat by myself and get into some yard work also but haven't made it yet.

Feel like I am in limbo here, don't know where I am. There is a complete disconnect between my darling and I, treading water and pretending for the sake of the children 😢 My darling is doing far better than she has in well over 12 even 18 months mh wise. I am most thankful for that but feeling unloved and unappreciated.

We went out to a work Christmas party tonight which was nice but I didn't enjoy it like I should.

Good to hear the night time distress has settled for you @Former-Member. Have been thinking about you both and keeping you in prayer.

Re: Ups and Downs of Husband`s Mental Illness

Understanding that the major psych disorders are terminal conditions if not adequately treated (or sadly with some patients, even if they are) is difficult to come to terms with @Determined. I think I understand this and perhaps uncomfortable emotions are stirred not only in relation to past events but perhaps also future fears (of failing to achieve and maintain remission) when discussions such as these take place.

Yes, there are interventions that help, but we cannot put unnecessary guilt on ourselves, as with other illnesses such as cancer and heart disease loved ones also have 'if only' thoughts, had I noticed signs, followed a different treatment, watched what we ate etc

Communication (or lack of it) does play a part in this. I know I felt ill-equipped to know what to do (or what not to do) when Mr D came home following his lengthy hospitalisation. Perhaps I should advocate for some carer education in relation to that.

I must get some shut eye, good to hear you are going to see counselor Bro, I too made an appt.

Darcy

Re: Ups and Downs of Husband`s Mental Illness

@Determined, spoke too soon, Mr D woke through the night, was whimpering, gave him some pain relief and he settled. Seeing his GP today, don't know what yet, but some abnormality in routine bloods, perhaps could explain some of his unwell feelings.
