Ups and Downs of Husband`s Mental Illness

Ups and Downs of Husband`s Mental Illness

Hello @PeppiPatty, over here my special friend xx

Hello Everyone

Love to hear from others on the forum if you experience this

My hubby has been diagnosed with lots of things and has had MI all his life

do you find things goes ok and i start to feel confident and wanting to go forward and then everytime something always happens to upset it -- sometimes I think is it a controlling thing ?? that he wants to be in control ??

Don`t know if I am making this up , but i have that feeling ,

That's so rude of them @Shaz51 .... wishing better friends for you .... ❣ ... and y'have us all here ....

So glad you have decent customers who give you some company.

If there is a coffee shop you can walk to in town, the staff might become friendly to you as a "regular" ... while it's not deep friendship, it's nice to be acknowledged and know there is someone to chat to casually.

💐💗💕

..well, maybe they were tired, unless it happens often ..do you ring them or do they ring you? yeah not so simple small town, but try some new faces? you might be surprised. People stay 'friends' for all sorts of reasons @Shaz51

Re: Ups and Downs of Husband`s Mental Illness

Dear @Shaz51

Sorry, I need to have a snooze.....

But the plus is that you are very positive like me.

The negatives is that the changes need to come from him.

When I get nervous or anything I go really quiet and not say anything.

My husband decided to stop eating sugar all by himself because his weight is out of control from meds and quitting smoking.

My husband used to drink 4 fizzy drinks per day, you know those Mother fizzy drinks. He now has 2 to 4 per day but with no sugar. He has a long way to go but from when he used to eat and drink he has come a long way.

Dont worry about him sitting down and not wanting to go anywhere. I think that it might be harder on him if he thinks that you are worrying about him.

Can you do something like ...

.watch a dvd

make a terrarium ?

first research and then make the terrarium ?

do some drawing.....

sew ?

Hi @Shaz51. Sorry hear about those friends. But as @Faith-and-Hope said you have us on this forum. Hope that gives you some comfort 😊 She has a great tip about walking into a coffee shop. I been to many places around world and so far i have found the friendliest people are here in Australia! Canada does come close. I talk to random people on the lift to work sometimes. You may not get that deep bond but it is nice sometimes to talk to someone. Just some light discussion!

Re: Ups and Downs of Husband`s Mental Illness

Hi @Shaz51

I read you thread last night and wondered if it was that my brain was tired because I could not answer - and it's lunchtime and I just got up so I must have been tired

But I still find it hard to answer - still - I'm not tired

But I will have a go

I don't know if his need to control you is because of his mental illness directly or if it is a side effect but I strongly believe that there are people who have a need to control other people around them and what I was thinking about while I drank a glass of milk and ate a snack was what defines MI because that is obscure - maybe there are people who just need to control others and can be violent about it - and others are manipulative

TS is so manipulative I have wondered if she is twisted inside somewhere - but I can't be sure of that - pretty sure there is something wrong with people who have a need to be the bossy cocky and nothing works but what they say works - Idodn't like being controlled and I don't think anyone else would like that either

It's really hard for you living in a small rural environment and also I have found that people do not ring you - I feel I have to do the ringing and I gave that away long ago - maybe other people have found that themselves - people ring other people when they have some kind of business or news to exchange - and I can understand and feel it myself - who wants to be the one that always reaches out

But what to do? You will not be working as much next year - and you can't drive - can you ride a bike?

And personlly I know your husband has MI but not all of his behaviour is caused by that - and one thing that pops into my mind is that it would be better to take a walk and just find a spot where you can be alone for however long you need to be away from this demand on you personally - it is actually a form of abuse

But otherwise I really don't know what to answer - it is really hard for me to know

But yes - I do care about it
