Ups and Downs of Husband`s Mental Illness

Ups and Downs of Husband`s Mental Illness

Hello @PeppiPatty, over here my special friend xx

Hello Everyone

Love to hear from others on the forum if you experience this

My hubby has been diagnosed with lots of things and has had MI all his life

do you find things goes ok and i start to feel confident and wanting to go forward and then everytime something always happens to upset it -- sometimes I think is it a controlling thing ?? that he wants to be in control ??

Don`t know if I am making this up , but i have that feeling ,

Re: Ups and Downs of Husband`s Mental Illness

@soul @Shaz51 @soul @Determined

Mr Darcy has said a couple of things post history lesson, thankfully all along the lines of the challenge being looking ahead.

There gave been other glimpses of hope this week, Mr Darcy looking forward to and suggesting things for our trip where previously he had been ambivalent.

I have been thinking more about what you wrote @soul. It will be the first time since Mr D's attempt that the family will have seen him and it will be fresh in their minds. It guess I am worried about inappropriate comments and focus. Some will not understand the need for us to have breathing space and might place demands on us. Also "remember when ..." has upset potential as Mr Darcy cannot remember most of our last 3 or 4 visits (including my Dad's funeral, brothers wedding, 50th birthdays).

I have mentioned how looking things up and learning about mental illness really helped me understand. It also helped me so much personally and I hope become a better person.

Nevertheless, I do not diminish the difficulty a patient would have coming to terms with a failed attempt I guess I am still afraid that the meds will not hold Mr Darcy, at present it appears they are and whilst no guarantees can be given, I am slowly gaining confidence that the treating team are on track and that he is being adequately treated. I cannot express how grateful I am.

Re: Ups and Downs of Husband`s Mental Illness

thank you @Former-Member

I don`t know if it is called learning or growing but i remember before i came on the sane forum, i would be a mess , i would be crying , locking myself in the bathroom saying i can`t take this anymore , though mr shaz was a lot worse then too

but with my emotional state , he could not cope either which made it worse , but when i came here 2 years ago and @NikNik, cherrybomb, @Appleblossom, @Jacques, @PeppiPatty, @Former-Member, @Former-Member, @Former-Member, @Janna and others helped me

and now i still gt overwhemled from time to time but with all my wonderful friends i have made over the years on here has made a difference like @Former-Member, @Determined, @Faith-and-Hope, @soul, @JoJo99 and many many more

Re: Ups and Downs of Husband`s Mental Illness

Know what you mean @Shaz51
I probably should be able to start relaxing a bit more as I think Mr Darcy really has improved.

Have a couple of other things happening at present which I think have a bearing on why I am perhaps a bit on edge. See the psychologist next week so might be able to get a couple more coping tips.
