Negative self talk

Negative self talk

Hey all! I was wondering what kinds of strategies you all have for negative self talk? Affirmations aren't really doing it for me right now and I can't afford to see my psychologist at the moment, which is a real shame because they really help me to hold things together with my combination of ASD, ADHD and bipolar. Oh and PTSD!

I think that what's hard is that we have recently realised that I don't have 2-3 labels but 4 mental health challenges/disorders which make my life really hard to deal with. That's been crushing me more than I have really realised. I am also on my own too much after taking 3 months off work with a medical certificate after I had a big autistic meltdown which met with a psychotic episode. Thankfully I knew through a former coworker that it's possible to have 3 months off via Centrelink and my psychiatrist if I need it.

I'm nearly 40 and I'm really struggling to get past how I could ever have a partner or anything. I need to try and get in some healing while I have this time off.

Thanks in advance,

Rose.

@RoseGeranium Thank you for posting. All the responses have been wonderful to read.

I love the mental image of the little people running from your heart.

Amazing what our brain 🧠 can do with our nervous system.

Hey @RoseGeranium ,

How's it all going in terms of the negative talk? Any progress?

Hi @tyme , thanks so much for checking in!

Both the reframing and using my visualisation technique of imagining evacuating/kicking out tiny, imaginary people in my heart chakra [as if they were squatting there and each represents one negative thought about myself] seems to really be working. I hope that last part made sense!

I have some positive affirmations that are also helping me to feel better and get over my anhedonia and depression piece by piece.

Once I'm stimulated by being back at study I'm hoping to not get down so very easily. At least as someone with autism, I have found vestibular stimming to also help such as rocking and spinning.

🙂 E.

So happy to hear something is shifting @RoseGeranium . Things may not be perfect, but you have found a way to make changes and that's a start.

So impressed by your efforts!

I'm so glad to hear you are working on reframing, visualising and using positive affirmations. What an inspiration!

@tyme Aah thank you! Or a kangaroo minute where I stop and take a breath but only ever move forward like a kangaroo. They don't tend to look back or get stuck [or so I hear].
