Re: Health

@neil I've struggled with some health issues too

I also have higher risks factors for those chronic conditions too

  1. Genetics
  2. Health Conditions (Premature menopause)
  3. Lifestyle factors

Some of the risk factors I have control over and some I don't have control over. I suffer from MDD and dysthymia.

In the last 12 months I have lost a lot of weight and for a little while I have been plateauing with this but I have not put on any weight or lost any weight. I have been struggling a bit with motivation but I find what has helped me is to remind myself how far I have came and also the feeling I get from exercise.

Some tips

You could get a referral to see an EP from your GP and you can claim this through medicare and there might be a gap payment required. If you need help with meal planning you could see a dietitian too and get a referral from GP and that is also covered from medicare and there might be a gap payment as well.

I myself I have not gone through my GP I have just done this for myself, and I have claimed some of it on my private health insurance but once I use all my funds from private health insurance I have payed all the fees myself.

I also have a fitbit and that also helps motivated me to stay on track too, and you could also include friends and family with using a fitbit too. You add friends to your list and you can encourage & support each other.

But biggest tip would be consistency with exercise and diet. I think achieving results and feeling good I think that is my biggest motivator and also being proud of me. I would say I am very close to overcoming this and I should be there within the next 6 weeks. I hope this helps.

Re: Health

I have stayed away from scales for a long time but it might be time to check in with them. I am more ready to deal with actual weight loss at the moment as well as maintaining decent food and having active lifestyle.

The best way so far is to have little habits that are healthy and I dont have to think about it too much. new habits I started this week .. have lettuce and carrots for lunch more often and keep buying good yummy tomatoes for snacks.

Re: Health

I'm similar to @Appleblossom and @Former-Member.

I have BPD, peri menopause and have always been "chubby" since birth I think 🙂 - product of parents who believe fat child is a healthy child. I have gone through so many battles to lose weight and it is constantly up & down.

The best way I lost weight was when I wasnt trying to lose weight. I wanted to be 'HEALTHY" eat less crap and more home cooked stuff and then while I was doing this I lost some weight too. You dont need to go to a "gym" for fitness I hate gyms and the idea bores me. I still need to lose some weight but fiend I get my excercise from playing with my dog or working in the garden. Before my knee injury I used to go for walks at lunch time which also helps reduce stress.

I find eating less "processed" foods helps as well. I dont buy tomatoe pasta sauces - I make them, I dont really have any made up foods in my pantry just baked beans and other veges. I try to make things from start so you know how much fat or salts it has.

Slowly integrate these things into your diet so it becomes the norm.

Re: Health

Great responses here. I carry some extra weight too. Scared of diabetes too. Small steps work for me. I try to walk more, park a bit further away. Take the stairs. I drink water instead of juices or fizzy. Little changes all add up. I wish you all the best neil.
