Husband with Schizoaffective Disorder

Husband with Schizoaffective Disorder

My husband of 9 years has Schizoaffective Disorder - Bi-Polar Type. When i met him he was diagonised with Bi-Polar but that changed on a visit to hospital a few years back. The change of diagonis seems to fit him well. He is a very supported person and is well functing in this condition. But can always improve in some areas. The main area that affects me is his reliance on me and his over concern of me (He has a high level of Paranoia about safety). For the last two years we have also worked in the same place. Me full time and him part-time because he has to sleep alot of the time to stay resonably well. With a recent change of hours for me i wont be at the work place as much in the same time frame as him, which then will free up some time to my self (i have needed this for a long time). He is very good with taking medications and seeing specialists (which im so thankful for).

How do other people deal with the reliance placed on them?

Re: Husband with Schizoaffective Disorder

Hi Sally, I completely understand where you are coming from as my partner of 8 years has schizo effective disorder and also requires much sleep to stay well and monthly depots. My partner is also high functioning and has a casual job. And yes he also checks on me regularly , especially if I am not home from work on a night he knows I don't have meetings. What he seems to forget is I am a teacher and need to remain at school some days to get on top of my workload and now that my daughter has moved out of home to complete her final year of schooling as his highs and lows and episodes were just too unsettling for her, I have time on my hands to do stuff for me. This is an adjustment period for him but I have decided to do more things for me . I feel frustrated when beings to see where I am and when he has full on episodes that require hospitalisation a constant recurring theme for him is that I am out having an affair with anyone and everyone etc etc ( goodness knows where I would find the time!!!) My biggest frustration at the moment is me working full time and him sleeping until 10 am every day and then deciding whether he will go into work or not!!!! Meanwhile every payday he quickly pays all the bills and then tells me how tight the fortnight will be and how we need to budget !!!!!!!! Everytime I dare suggest that maybe he work a bit more I get my head bitten off!!!! What is your experience eith the work balance
