I am embracing my body or causing it more trauma. TW

I am embracing my body or causing it more trauma. TW

Over the last six months or so I have been experimenting sexually-to the point where I'm not sure if I'm safe doing so.

Background-I experienced a lot of sexual trauma in my younger years. I've been telling myself I'm learning to explore and love my body by hooking up with randoms from online. I have done some things in pursuit of sex I'm not too proud of, from public sex, to unsafe hookups and unsafe sex with people older than my father. I don't know whether I'm owning and exploring my body and taking ownership of what I do now, or giving into my trauma and doing anything to please people, and finding attention in all the wrong ways.

I'm really stressed that I'll pick up an STI or I'll put myself at too much risk because you never know what online hookup will go wrong.

I don't know how to stop though.

Hey there @The-red-centaur ,

I can see how this is on your mind. It sounds like a rough place to sit in. On one side you are experimenting, while on the other, you recognise you may not be safe doing so.

It's probably a good idea to have a chat to your doctor about your sexual health. They may be able to provide you with some advice to ensure you are safe. Would you consider doing this?

Thanks @tyme I probably should.

I'm wondering if it's worth going to local sexual health clinic or would the gp be better

Sexual health clinic is a good start if it is accessible to you. Otherwise, I maybe the GP is more accessible? @The-red-centaur You may be more comfy with the sexual health clinic.

Thank you for being open to this idea. I wasn't sure if I'd said the right thing.

I just had a look online and the closest clinic is right in the city....my gp is probably more accessible @tyme

And you suggestion was good. Bringing it up with my Dr is a good place to start. Maybe I should even talk to my mental health care coordinator or psychologist, I'm worried about how my sex life is impacting my mental health.

just remember HPV causes cervical cancer. these people who you are having relations with will not be there for you when you need chemo. just saying...

There is also the risk of covid - which causes brain damage, it causes trauma symptoms without the trauma. so if you are trying to heal, you need to find other ways of validating yourself.

"In this casual hookup culture it is so normalized to think risk is nonexistent. In reality, some STIs are not commonly tested in males (e.g. HPV), can be transmitted even with condoms, cause cancer, etc. People need to wake up. Your situationship is not worth the stress. 17 Mar 2023 " Shahida Arabi
