Too much

Too much

Hi everyone!

I'm new here, I have Autism level 2 and ADHD. Struggling to find support for it which is why I am here.

Tonight my friend expressed that my messages have been too much for her, does anyone else become too much for others when they are down? This isn't the first time I've been told I am too much, I understand why but it still hurts.

Re: Too much

I wonder if it would be helpful to speak to the course co-ordinators early and hopefully they can be more supportive of you as you progress through the course? @Pinkgal

I certainly did that at the beginning of each unit I studied. I emailed them to let them know that I may need a bit of extra support and they were absolutely fine with that.

Having those anxious nerves is totally okay. I haven't completed an assignment in over a year and last week, I had to do an assignment - it felt so weird to do it all again and I felt those nerves too!

I took deep breaths throughout the assignment so that the anxiety wouldn't overwhelm me.

I'm glad to hear that you are finding ways to keep grounded.

Also, it is understandable you are still thinking of your friend. In a way, it was good that they were able to let you know directly. Better than people ghosting someone so that there's no closure...

You are on the right track. Just keep going.

Re: Too much

I'm doing a lot better tonight, I seem to have settled down. I had some self harm thoughts today so I got a rubber band and snapped it against my wrist when ever I freak out or had dark thoughts.

It seems to really help!

Thank you so much for checking up on me, not a lot of people check to see if I'm ok 🩷

Good!!

I had a rough patch this week but looks like I'm out the other side, sometimes when life gets too much I find it really hard to cope.

I live with family so I am supported and safe, it's just getting through the dark thoughts without worrying people too much.

Thank you for letting the community here know you are safe @Pinkgal .

It's good to have family around at times like this. I'm glad they add to your safety.

What are things you like to do to keep you busy and perhaps distract you from these thoughts?

@tyme

It mainly happens when I am around sharp objects, which is why I got the rubber band. It's mainly wanting a distraction from the pain and being overwhelmed, so my brain seeks pain in some form which is why the rubber band helps because it hurts but not permanent.

I'm in the process of trying to find a psychiatrist for my ADHD and Autism, I need a new doctor and my psychologist is on medical leave. Not a great combination of circumstances but I am 3/4 of the time dealing with life.

The down times I talk to friends and Mum
