How do I get outside?

How do I get outside?

Like many, I suffer medication-resistant schizophrenia. I am always plagued by voices, and trying to cling to the idea that they aren’t real. They often terrify me or render me absolutely hopeless, by always harping on the horrors of my past.
I cannot go outside. I cannot continue with my chosen career. I tried one step at a time, but that only made things worse. I can no longer work in my own garden. I am restarting cognitive therapy, but my appointment isn’t for two weeks (public holiday). It is not an emergency or anything, I am just interested if others may have achieved what I cannot…going for a walk…

Re: How do I get outside?

I'm hearing about this more frequently lately in that medication is not stopping the voices - hence it is about learning to manage and live with the voices. @Booklover

It sounds incredibly hard. I cannot say I have experienced hearing voices, but I watched a TED talk whereby someone speaks about learning to live with these voices. She was successful and a professional. Watching it was a real eye-opener.

I hope others here will be able to share their experiences with you.

Please take care,

tyme

"If Mohammed can not go to the mountain, then the mountain must come to Mohammed"

(Did I quote that right, @Booklover ?)

Anyhow, the point I wanted to make was... even though it may seem incidental, perhaps a small thing you could try at first is to bring those elements you can from the out of doors, in...

Sunlight?

Pull back the curtains, roll up the blinds.

Open the door (leave the screen door closed if need be).

Fresh air?

Open your window. Have the breeze brush your brow. Let the songbirds bubble through.

Burrow into your slippers, sit by the window and open a book on the art, the joy, the somesuch wonder of walking...

Do have a porch or deck where you can test out the fringe zone of inside/outside? Til your secure and comfortable for new frontiers...

What about the clothes line...are you able to venture there?

If all else fails, there's Pokey La Farge. !! 😁

Sincerely: hope you feel better soon. I'm sure there's pockets of sunshine out there just waiting to cup your cheeks...
