Feeling very alone

Feeling very alone

Not coping very well. No motivation. Seems like i am always there for my family. Listening to them, supporting them . But i feel so very alone. my husband wrote an email to my psychiatrist , and it was very evident that he has no understanding of my mental health issues. weve only been married 42years! My psychiatrist was gobsmacked, and sat there shaking his head saying it was unbelievable . He has sugested that we have couples therapy . so that is still to be arranged. My psychiatrist leaves in two weeks time, so that isn't helping. i dont know what to do

Re: Feeling very alone

Hi Chris,

I'm sorry you are feeling alone, i sometimes feel a bit the same, i'm always there for my kids and doing all the running around but there's not much for me (not that i expect anything from my littlies...!!)

Sounds like the letter your husband wrote has also made you feel more alone and misunderstood. I hope that the couples therapy can happen soon.

Is your psychiatrist going on holiday or leaving forever? Have you got a new person to see organised? I know i would find it really hard if my psychologist left.

How are you doing tonight?

Re: Feeling very alone

My psychiatrist is going for good. Its only been the last six months i have really started to open up to him. Its taken me three years to get to this point. It always ends the same way. I only have two sessions left with him , and i honestly don't know how i am going to cope with the ending.

Re: Feeling very alone

im really sorry to hear that. It took me a long time to trust the psychologist that i work with. and still find it hard to be really open and honest, but that is partly because of my situational stuff..

Its really hard. I'm not sure what to say except that we'll be here listening and caring over the next few weeks.. and beyond. Will your psychiatrist maybe help to set you up with a plan to cope after he finishes or a way to sort of sum things up/celebrating the things that you've achieved in the last six months especially? I was thinking that it may not take as long to build up that trusting relationship with someone else perhaps because you've probably learnt a lot skills and the 'process' of working with a psychiatrist if that makes sense?

Re: Feeling very alone

Hi there @Chris,

That sounds really hard with your partner not being understanding of your mental health concerns, I can only imagine how tough that would be for you to become aware of that.

It is great that you are both willing to try talking to a Relationships Counsellor to help focus on being understood by your partner, and then you both can work to build some ways of coping around the mental health concerns that you are experiencing.

On top of this you are losing your psychiatrist, maybe in the last 2 sessions you could really work on a plan in regards to your coping based on everything that you have discussed and then you can bring them to the new psychiatrist? Writing some of these coping strategies down will help make them concrete and handy to have on you for times when you are struggling.

Also, I hope you are taking good care of yourself, it sounds like with all of this going on you are really needing some time to yourself. Do you have some self care things that you like to do to give you some space or clear your head ?

Re: Feeling very alone

Well its been an extremely busy day. we had word that an aunt of my husbands passed away yesterday. its only been two months since my husband lost his dad. so its been pretty hard on him. The funeral wont be untill next Tuesday . I had numerous phone calls tomake first thing this morning, then a visit to my gp to get the paperwork for application for five extra psychology visits. Then some shopping which was an exercise in frustration. I couldnt get any of the things i needed to get. Came home and had a sleep. Just feel like im passed my use by date. cant stop thinking aboutmy session tomorrow . I expect he will start and put a plan together for when he goes. i never thought i would feel this way about him leaving. Its so dambed hard.

Hi @Chris

I'm sorry to hear about your partners aunty, and his fathers passing so recently too 😞 . the world is cruel at times.

Glad you got extra psychology visits, will that help with getting through the transition from seeing your psychiatrist?

I think it's pretty normal to find it hard to lose a psychiatrist/support person. I hope that tomorrow's session goes ok,

@Chris
I can relate to exactly what you wrote. My hubby doesn't understand my mental health issues either and we've been married 30 yrs. it's so hard because you feel alone I totally understand how lonely it can be.
I lost my therapist after 5 yrs. I was devastated to say the least. Still trying to find another one. I felt so rejected and abandoned. I hope you will be ok. Take care. Xxoo
