~ The Toolshed ~

~ The Toolshed ~

So I've decided to create a new space, similar to The Ice-Memery but instead of being silly memes, these are memes/images/words etc. that I've found that are more like tools and insights for recovery. Hence, I welcome you to:

~ The Toolshed! ~

🔧💡🔩🤔

These are things I've found that are insightful, provide psychoeducation, or that have helped inspire me in my recovery journey. I invite anyone who wishes to contribute to do so! It doesn't have to be pictures, it can be discussion, questions, videos, whatever you like! But to start us off, I would love to share a nice lil stack of memes/pics I've found that I thought were really worth the read.

P.S. If you haven't already, you can also check out our Coping Toolbox for ideas and strategies to help you when you need to cope with the hard stuff!

So without further ado, lemme kick us off!

Will just tag a few forumites to start, pls do tag anyone you feel would enjoy or wanna contribute to this thread!

Re: ~ The Toolshed ~

That first one @Jynx explains it real well. People who have experienced tragic loss like the death of a child. You never ever get over. In time you learn to cope better.

Re: ~ The Toolshed ~

I loved your one with venn diagrams @Glisten

Humans hold contradictions and opposites within themselves. It is a key to being human and not necessarily inconsistent.

@Jynx

If it still bothers you in 24 hours speak up within 48 hours.

Learned a new thing and a new strategy. Thank you!

Re: ~ The Toolshed ~

@Appleblossom thank you. Humans - we’re all circumstances and conditions. Sometimes I wonder about highly adaptive vs less adaptive people. Are highly highly adaptive people, more easily influenced?

@Glisten

I think part of the problem is with dualistic thinking.

ha ha not sure. I am probably pretty adaptive. How about young versus old? In my early years I was much more easily influenced, now not so. The reality is we have multiple traits and so different ones may come into the fore at different times or as needed.

Re: ~ The Toolshed ~

@Jynx I’m not fond of the Peanuts Worry picture. It has that toxic happiness vibe.

Re: ~ The Toolshed ~

Appreciate you saying @Glisten - I can see where you're coming from. To me, it is similar to the saying, 'He who worries suffers twice'. I can understand the peanuts comic might sound like the sentiment, "Don't worry, be happy!" which so many of us have felt so invalidated by. For me in my journey, I had to learn when to worry. I think this sums it up better than I can right now:

To me, the sentiment is not "just stop worrying about things!", it's about realising how much energy one might be putting into worrying about something, when doing so won't actually make the situation better. Anxiety is the voice of our survival system, so it's not something we can ignore, nor should we. But it can become maladaptive, which mine certainly did - and I had to really spend some time reflecting on my worries, to realise that 90% of the things I was worrying about never actually came to pass. The amount of time and energy I spent worrying was far more of a strain on my mind and body than any of the stuff I was actually anxious about.

So for me, it is a helpful reminder!! But not all of these little pics or quotes or whatever are going to resonate with everyone, cos we're all different! I appreciate you being open and honest about how it's made you feel, and I'm always open to continue discussing it with you if you wanted to share your take on it all 💜
