Art to recentre me

Art to recentre me

I really enjoy art, and it helps to recentre me. I love to express myself through a myriad of different art forms, resin, crochet, soap making, candle making, jewellery making, making cards and potpourri. I especially love working with essential oils and fragrant oils to make candles and soaps, scented sprays. I fall in love with the different scents!

Im a hopeless painter and hopeless at drawing and could not put graphite to paper and sketch an image to save myself. I also have one of those funky Cricut makers (ridiculous price tag) so can add logos to shirts, and do stuff like add print to mugs. I usually gift people home-crafted things for birthdays and things.

Was just wondering if others on here enjoy different art forms as a “means of self expression?” And does it help you at all? I really want to try something new, such as mosaics. Open to any suggestions?

Wow @tyme,

3D printing?! My gosh. Your creativity inspires me even more! I had never even considered that. Fidget toys? How great!

Oh the possibilities could be endless @tyme ! I’d label all the containers in the pantry, all the spice jars. I’d go through the bathroom, the laundry… if it was your birthday or Christmas I’d create something! Lol

oh 3D printing could be fun too!

Nice to meet you also @Former-Member

ive done quiet a few custom paint by numbers. Ordered them online, turning a photo into a painting. They come out pretty good! I’ve run out of wall space to hang them though.

bunnings have a lot of mosaic supplies. I might give it a try in the summer school holidays with my daughter. Thankfully she has picked up my creative genes and loves to do anything arts and crafty.

Wow, your wall of paint by numbers sounds wonderful @Bow. What a way to liven up a space.

bunnings? Oh, well now I’ll just have another excuse to visit. I have seen their craft section. I think I recall seeing the tiles for mosaics. But I fear I’ll be sidetracked by all the other amazing stuff in that store. Big Bunnings fan here.

Hey @Former-Member

I love that you use all of those creative forms to express and recentre yourself. I love to draw but aren't that great. One of my favourite things is collage. I've read a lot about it helping with mental health. My daughter is doing design at uni and she did these super cool collages for one of her assessments. I need some tips from her.

I've always dreamed of buying a Cricut one day!!!

Collage! I love that idea of collage, @hanami! I recall reading this idea of a type of collage where you rifle through some old magazines, newspapers etc and select images that correspond to the authentic life you want. Say, if you long for that chicken coop pictured in the magazine, you cut it out and paste it in your scrapbook. I tried this a long time ago for some time and it was such a wonderful way where I could just dream! And you have this collection of images to thumb through when you are feeling down. I might start that up again 😊

@Former-Member I'm super happy that it was helpful for you! My absolute pleasure.

I'm keen to do some myself now as I haven't done any for a while.
