Art to recentre me

Art to recentre me

I really enjoy art, and it helps to recentre me. I love to express myself through a myriad of different art forms, resin, crochet, soap making, candle making, jewellery making, making cards and potpourri. I especially love working with essential oils and fragrant oils to make candles and soaps, scented sprays. I fall in love with the different scents!

Im a hopeless painter and hopeless at drawing and could not put graphite to paper and sketch an image to save myself. I also have one of those funky Cricut makers (ridiculous price tag) so can add logos to shirts, and do stuff like add print to mugs. I usually gift people home-crafted things for birthdays and things.

Was just wondering if others on here enjoy different art forms as a “means of self expression?” And does it help you at all? I really want to try something new, such as mosaics. Open to any suggestions?

Oh my teens enjoy those diamond dot painting pictures, and beading, flower pressing and so forth so hopefully I’ve passed this means of self expression on to them…

Hey @Former-Member , I reckon you have named pretty much everything I like doing:

- candles

- soaps

- cricut projects

- diamond art

I'm not much of a drawer or a painter.

I also like origami and lego (hefty price tag too!)

Hey @tyme, origami, that’s something to try. Love the Cricut 😊 I don’t enjoy the Lego, but my son does, he’s awesome at it!

I can't say I've done much with the cricut. I have the most expensive one and it sits in its box in the garage with all the vinyls, metallic paper etc.... @Former-Member

What have you been able to make with it?

Re: Art to recentre me

I’ve added decals to shirts, mugs, on wine glasses, constantly get a request to add some image or slogan to my daughter’s shirt’s, I’ve even made beautiful rose flowers I placed in a shadow box to give as a gift…though there is sooo much more you can do…

Don’t let that Cricut languish in its box in the garage @tyme., you’ve got to utilise it!

Re: Art to recentre me

Inspire me @Former-Member ... coz the $600+ machine and heaps of blades, vinyls, iron-ons are just in the garage.

I don't really know what to make.

I wouldn't even want anything ironed to my clothes...

The only thing I can think of is to make a large inspiring quote or bible verse on the wall and that's it. And then again, I don't even know how to make it so large.

Re: Art to recentre me

I enjoy being creative @Former-Member and will give almost anything a crack at least once.

I really enjoy painting and always have some painting on the easel. I do like to be creative and create my own masterpiece, but sometimes… quiet often lately, I just don’t have the creative juices, so I have been doing a lot of paint by numbers. It allows me to paint but not have to think too much about it.

I would love to do some mosaic too. And some resin work.

I attend a weekly arts and craft group run for people with mental health issues. We do all sorts of things.

@tyme can’t believe you have one of them fancy expensive machines sitting in your garage! Get it out and use it!! I would so love one of them.

True @Bow I've got the cricut maker 3. Apart from putting the kids' names on their drink bottles and lunchboxes, put some names of notebooks etc, what else is there to do???

Oh @Former-Member @Bow . Another thing I can add to the list is 3D printing. I make a fair few things with 3D printers. I use TinkerCAD to design and prusa to slice the designs for printing. So I make fidget toys, shopping trolley keys, pencil holders etc.

Hi @Bow,

It’s nice to meet you.

I envy your ability to paint. I tried paint by numbers some time ago whilst I was in hospital. I’m afraid I didn’t complete. I too, would love to try mosaics. It looks quite complex.
