Why I Will Vote Yes - Referendum: The Voice

Why I Will Vote Yes - Referendum: The Voice

Hi SANE Community

As you might already know, SANE as an organisation is supporting a YES vote tomorrow at the Referendum and is encouraging everyone to vote Yes on October 14 in support of the Voice to Parliament.

As a community of people with lived experiences of mental health issues, we know just how important it is to have a voice on the issues that affect us, and that's what tomorrow's referendum is all about.

A great place to start to understand what is actually being asked of you tomorrow is reading the actual referendum question, you can do that on the official Government website here: Referendum question and constitutional amendment | The Voice

If you are unsure about it, I interviewed Yes campaigner Jade recently - check out this video to learn more about the Voice, where it came from and what it means.

For me, it is very simple. We have been asked whether we agree that there should be a body, called the Voice that can make representations on the things that affect Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. It is so simple, so straightforward, so aligned to my own understanding of the power of lived experience informing better solutions that Yes is such an easy answer. I hope you will join me.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TcFIfMvs6YA

Re: Why I Will Vote Yes - Referendum: The Voice

seems to me a yes vote supports the repackaging of the infamous assimilation policy of yesteryear...

As descendant of the Wiradjuri, I will vote No. @RachSANECEO

Thanks for replying @Kyle1 I am curious about why you feel the creation of the Voice would lead to assimilation policies? I’d like to understand your perspective there if you’d like to share?

Side note: thanks for sharing that @Captain24 and I hope you’ll contribute to the current codesign survey I think we can do a lot more to make our forum spaces better for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Communities. There’s a section in the survey where you can sign up to be part of the focus groups and we will hold specific Indigenous focus groups as part of the process.
