What do you think I should do?

What do you think I should do?

First time posting, new to the service - hi!

Without posting the novel that is my life story, here is my most pressing problem that I am hoping someone on here has some sort of answer to or idea.

I have anxiety, depression, C-PTSD, epilepsy, fibromyalgia and Ehlers Danlos Syndrome. Basically, I am always in a hell of a lot of pain and still working through trauma.

I have all the degrees and qualifications to be a lawyer and I have been working in the legal industry for the last 7 years but it is clear to me that the legal industry is not kind to people with a disability.

I lost my job a couple of months ago when I was still in the probationary period whilst I was being wheeled into surgery to have my gallbladder out. The bullying by the manager was so bad that it induced seizures. This is not the first time that this sort of thing has happened.

I think I have worked out what I want to do next but it is going to take a Masters degree and a few months to get there. In the meantime, I am unemployed and I cannot get access to Centrelink because my partner earns too much. Not going to go into the inequity of that situation and I am sure heaps of people here have dealt with similar issues with that system.

So that leaves me with the problem of having no income and feeling like I am extremely limited in what I can do. I have lots of medical appointments which have been points of contention at old places of employment so I need flexibility. I cannot do much physically and sometimes I have bad pain or a seizure and I am done for the day.

I am currently doing DoorDash which sucks and isn't very profitable or stable and is reliant on my pain that day. I struggle to not over-exert myself and then get in the pattern of booming and busting really hard.

It also sucks because I have 3 university degrees and I am capable of more and I originally went into the legal industry to help people. I couldn't do anything medical because I do not have the stomach or immune system for it.

Does anyone here have any magical ideas about how I can make money in a way that is, I have to use the term, safe? I need to not exacerbate any of my medical conditions and I need to be doing something fulfilling. But the whole spending hours on applications, getting a job and then being kicked in the guts again is really messing with me.

Any magical suggestions guys?

Hi there @LunaisResilient ,

I'm sorry to hear your situation. It sounds like it's a difficult one. It must be so difficult not to have an income even though the bills don't stop rolling in.

I hear you haven't had the best experiences working for others. Would you consider taking small jobs providing legal advice in your area? These can be done online as your own business? Sorry, I'm not sure what type of law you do, but sometimes, it might be easier to get a few jobs in that way?

Sorry I don't have any quick fixes or answers for you, but I really wanted to welcome you to the forums.

Let us know how things go 🙂

Thank you. Yeah just in a tough spot with that suggestion because I am not admitted as a lawyer yet so I legally cannot give legal advice. My stalker has made the admission process more difficult ugh.

Thank you for the support! 🙂

Arghhhh @LunaisResilient . That is a sticky one.

Yet again, I'm wondering if there are any online opportunities you can look into? For example, telehealth services? Online marketing?

As I said, I don't know your interests, strengths etc. For me, I have strong design skills so in the past, when people ask for something to be made online, I pretty much make it and send it off as a paid-by-project thing. I don't do it anymore because I don't have the time, but it's a start.

I'm not much of a social media (FB, insta) person so I don't see people's requests, but my sister does, so she just asks if I want to do things.

Another one is joining up with recruitment agencies. Either you take part in interviews etc or you recruit people?

I really don't know. I'm jus throwing things out there 🙂

Sorry for the higglety, pigglety post.

Re: What do you think I should do?

@LunaisResilient I'm in a similar spot with leaving corporate life due to snowballing anxiety. Same as you, if I was given the benefit of flexibility I could contribute well but most employers are thoroughly in the mindset of squeezing blood from a stone when it comes to their employees.

I haven't found anything that suits my situation that pays well either!

Aww I dunno but let me know when you figure that one out hey? Hahaha

In all honesty, it's so tough, I completely get your situation. How many hours can you work at a time? If you can do 8, even if it's only one day a week I would recommend looking at government or university admin jobs. What state are you in? You'd probably be over qualified but it's better than door-dash and the pay isn't too bad, for what it is.
