Supported financially. There are, in any group, some that get more than others, and it's a very messy mess indeed.

That's where legislation is at fault.

Parental leave. Believe me, I've heard that before, it's like Centrelink just don't want to part with money and will fight tooth and nail to make sure people who need it don't get it.

I gather you have been employed? It seems if one works, they are less likely to get support from Centrelink, but in reality, they are the ones more entitled to receive it.

Please take care. Centrelink does peoples heads in, I think it's their job 🙂

@ArraDreaming

I'm so sorry for you, I really am.

The system is so screwed up, has been for decades, and they seem to know how to make it worse 😞

Congratulations, by the way. I'll bet you are so proud of her and her mum 🙂

There should be no wait at all, should be immediate. That's what it's there for. Well, I always thought that was what it was there for.

I had a friend she passed a few years ago, she had bone cancer, and Centrelink put her on Jobstart, even though she was being prepared for bone marrow work. They said she could still work part time.

The people that make these rules need a good taste of them themselves!

I hope Australia can vote yes to this, speaking as an aboriginal woman who's grandmother used to say "we don't talk about that" if she was asked about being aboriginal, covered her face in white powder everyday so they wouldn't take her children. All my dad knows is that he thinks his grandmother on his fathers side came from the Cobar region. They were taken to the Gundagai region (I believe stolen generation). The damage done by white people making decisions for our first nations people has caused so much trauma and loss of culture. We need a voice that can advocate for indigenous people. This isn't about giving money, it is about listening before imposing unworkable solutions.

People arguing for equality need to understand that racism means we do not have equality, even with programs like close the gap, we need to move toward equality by giving us a voice. I too am very fearful about the outcome. I am praying Australia can open it's heart to vote yes.

Hi @ArraDreaming,
I hope things are working out with Centrelink for you.

I understand about the social media, too.

Hi @Flotsam

I do hear you, truly I do. I do honestly feel that this voice is contrived by Labor and will not deliver what they are saying at all, I believe it's about a minority (they don't say who) controlling the country.

I so want Australia to be united, and move forward as one nation. We are all Australian, we should all be heard equally.

I have family both Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal, and I am seriously troubled over this.

I so want peace, not animosity.

Whatever the outcome, we can only hope like mad for peace.

Lots of hugs, please take care.

I am not here to change your mind. But I wanted to let you know about something.
When I was about 11 I remember going into my primary’s school staff room because they would make me and my siblings lunch at school. And I remember seeing a magnet on the fridge that said
“ fairness isn’t giving everybody the same, it is giving everybody what they need”
and at the time I didn’t understand it but I read it over and over and then still remember it and understand it now. You talk about division but Do you think this applies in this situation?

Re: I’m very fearful about the impact of this referendum vote

@ArraDreaming I really think this sums it up (what that magnet said). I am so sad that so many people don't understand it and actually think we are all equal when we are not. First Nations people have and still face so many challenges that white people don't and can only try to understand.

As a white person I try so hard to imagine what it's like, it's the least I can for the people who have walked this very earth I live on for thousands of years.

I hate that I have to vote. I feel like the voice should just happen. Not have a bunch of white folks vote on it who it doesn't even affect. I feel sad. I will be voting yes, of course I will. And I really hope you're doing okay.
