Bipolar depression

Bipolar depression

I have bipolar disorder 1. Currently I am experiencing depression. I am totally immobilised and can’t get motivated. Can’t take anti-depressants because they cause mania. Any suggestions?

Re: Bipolar depression

@GezzaP, any addictive behaviour is hard to stop, so you got to give yourself credit.

Social work is rewarding and interesting. I enjoy help other people, used to be a crisis text supporter at Lifeline, I used to love doing it, had to take a break, it’s been more than a year since I’ve done it, but my supports didn’t think it was healthy for me to do it in crisis mode. I was on the edge last year, it’s only until recently I’ve started feeling better, and still have stuff to work through. I really do want to pursue a career of mental health and consider going back to volunteer work when I’m ready

@creative_writer I stopped smoking again and I will persist. Glad you are enjoying your studies. Oh that would be demanding working at lifeline. Can see why you’d stop doing it if you’re having a difficult time. Wish you every success in your desire to work in mental health.

Re: Bipolar depression

@GezzaP, lifeline was a good experience, even though once it did trigger me big time. I don’t think I was in a good headspace to start off with, then I was advised not to continue to prevent retraumatisation. Sometimes you can do something for a while and it’s okay, and then one thing can set you back. I think I have done a lot of inner work ever since, healing from mental health is a journey that is worth going on. Changing habits takes time, I know you have the strength and motivation to fight your battles

Re: Bipolar depression

hey @GezzaP

just wondering back to your original post and whether you found any strategies that helped for your current/recent depression considering you can’t take antidepressants?

Hope it’s a good one today

Re: Bipolar depression

I have been in the depression hole for the past year and also react badly to most antidepressants (serotonin reputable inhibitors), your gp will be able to prescribe an alternative. I’ve found mood stabilizing medications work best for me. Hang in there, the depression is hard and your not alone.
