Tell me your silly stories

Tell me your silly stories

Hey folks! I thought I'd start up a thread where we can get a little bit silly. Sometimes life can get very serious, so it's always nice to have a chance to share a story about something that made you laugh, that was absolutely ridiculous, or that you think might give us all a giggle. I'll go first!

When I was about 10 years old, my whole family was invited to the local art gallery to celebrate local artists. My nan had had her latest painting nominated, and we were all stoked for her and wanted to show our support.

It was a pretty fancy do, everyone was in their nicest outfits and there was food, cocktails, and eventually, speeches. As a restless, rambunctious little kid with undiagnosed ADHD, I was SO BORED, and decided that it would be a good idea to start filling the front of my t-shirt up with the smooth gravel that filled the raised garden beds. As one does! Piles and piles, until my shirt was stretched from the weight. Then my dad yelled for all of us kids to come gather round, because the Mayor was about to make her speech. I, of course, brought the gravel with me.

Midway through the Mayor's speech, as she was highlighting the talent of the artists, my hand slipped.

FFFSSSSSHHHHHHHHHHH!!!

The sound of 1000 or so tiny stones pouring across the brickwork stopped the event dead in its tracks. Everyone stared. Some genius snapped a photo. Shocked silence gave way to laughter as my dad swooped in and carried me out of the limelight. For the rest of the night we all had to watch our step to avoid tripping on a pile of my embarrassment.

And that's the story about how I managed to make a beautiful fool of myself and my family in front of the fanciest people in town. We still laugh about the photo, my sheepish grin and the shocked face of the Mayor, the stones midway onto the ground - classic Jynx moment 🤣

Anyone got a silly, funny, or super strange story they'd like to share?

Re: Tell me your silly stories

I must've always had an unfunny life, @Jynx. I've racked my brains and can't think of any. However, as I wish to contribute to such a wonderful idea for a thread, I will mention that I had a Chinese neighbour who had two Scottish Terriers called Bill and Bob. Not ha-ha funny, but cute, and quite a cultural mix. It brought a smile to my face.

I noticed when I was about twelve that it seemed that everybody had an Uncle Bill and an Uncle Bob, so I thought it funny that an immigrant must have noticed too.

That's so cute @Historylover ,

My husband has an Uncle Bob and whenever people say "Bob's your Uncle", my husband says, "yes actually, he is"!

@Kyle1 omg LOL that is so wild! Reminds me of a time my mum was in the shower. The bathroom had two doors, one to the kitchen and one to the laundry/outside. The cat had wandered in from outside, and my mum said "Oh hello puss!"

My dad called from the kitchen, "Is... is the cat in there?" 🤣

@Historylover aww that's very cute, Bill & Bob!

@hanami 😂 Why yes, Bob IS my uncle! Brilliant

@SnowieKids are so good ours (5yo) has just started saying. ‘Shut your yapper’ we don’t know where it came from 🤭
It’s hilarious but it’s also not.

One of my funny stories @Jynx and is current. In our house the person that cooks dinner has to wear the paper bag on their head. The coles supermarket bags. But the problem with that is when I nearly sliced my finger off was that it’s very hard to see out of the tiny eye and mouth holes we made which is not safe cooking, so instead of just abandoning the plan we traded it in for a proper chef hat which our kids decorated. Took it a bit far. So now I wear a full chef hat to cook dinner. The irony in that is that the kids think I’m chef but still never eat anything I cook them. Anyway, once our dog got out of our gate and she’s a fast runner so I was like ah oh no and just left my house without thinking, no shoes nothing but the chef hat so I was walking around the street in this stupid chefs hat 🤣

Ok edit to clarify when I said wearing nothing I mean I grabbed nothing additional like shoes I was wearing clothes!!!
