Tell me your silly stories

Tell me your silly stories

Hey folks! I thought I'd start up a thread where we can get a little bit silly. Sometimes life can get very serious, so it's always nice to have a chance to share a story about something that made you laugh, that was absolutely ridiculous, or that you think might give us all a giggle. I'll go first!

When I was about 10 years old, my whole family was invited to the local art gallery to celebrate local artists. My nan had had her latest painting nominated, and we were all stoked for her and wanted to show our support.

It was a pretty fancy do, everyone was in their nicest outfits and there was food, cocktails, and eventually, speeches. As a restless, rambunctious little kid with undiagnosed ADHD, I was SO BORED, and decided that it would be a good idea to start filling the front of my t-shirt up with the smooth gravel that filled the raised garden beds. As one does! Piles and piles, until my shirt was stretched from the weight. Then my dad yelled for all of us kids to come gather round, because the Mayor was about to make her speech. I, of course, brought the gravel with me.

Midway through the Mayor's speech, as she was highlighting the talent of the artists, my hand slipped.

FFFSSSSSHHHHHHHHHHH!!!

The sound of 1000 or so tiny stones pouring across the brickwork stopped the event dead in its tracks. Everyone stared. Some genius snapped a photo. Shocked silence gave way to laughter as my dad swooped in and carried me out of the limelight. For the rest of the night we all had to watch our step to avoid tripping on a pile of my embarrassment.

And that's the story about how I managed to make a beautiful fool of myself and my family in front of the fanciest people in town. We still laugh about the photo, my sheepish grin and the shocked face of the Mayor, the stones midway onto the ground - classic Jynx moment 🤣

Anyone got a silly, funny, or super strange story they'd like to share?

Re: Tell me your silly stories

Well, I remember one time my family went to this long, boring church service with a lot of boring songs. It must've been one of my earliest church services because I didn't know how the word "hymn" was pronounced.

So as soon as we were let out, I turned to my dad and said: "Boy, we sure did a lot of hymens in there, didn't we dad?"

It was some time before I got an explaination for why the rest of the congregation seemed so shocked and stunned that day.

Re: Tell me your silly stories

For as long as I can remember my mums youngest sister was bedridden due to impact of MS. When she was younger she had owned dogs and she missed having a dog and with help of one of her friends she was given a young timid chihuahua who ended up having the run of my Nanas home.

layout of the house was central passage, bedrooms on the left, lounge on the right behind which was the kitchen, bathroom etc.

I would have been late primary school and my aunt had had the dog, named Goldie, for year of 2 by then who had become quite confident and cheeky.

one day my Nana gave Goldie a bone in the kitchen at which the dog grabbed the bone and raced up the passage, into the lounge room and under my aunts bed. My dad and my mums brother had attempts to get Goldie out from under the bed but backed off as soon as she started growling.

Knowing she wasn’t supposed to have the bone under the bed and everyone else was scared I decided to try to get her out. Getting down on my stomach I slowly crawled under the bed until I had a firm grip on one end of the bone. Goldie had the other end in her mouth and was growling but it didn’t stop me. I slowly crawled out backwards bringing dog and bone with me.

just as both Goldie and I were out from under the bed my Nana walked in asking what was going on. When my dad told her what had happened she started to laugh and I realised Goldie was only playing, her tail happily wagging.

here was this little dog who had 2 men totally bluffed by her noise. Not sure which was more embarrassed. Mainly remember my Nana laughing whilst Goldie started happily barking as if she joined in on the joke

Hi all @Jynx @chibam @Historylover @Former-Member

Great thread, your stories gave me some giggles.

Not sure I have any silly stories from when I was young, but when my kids were young, they certainly gave me some laughs.

My daughter called out hubby for farting in public one day at the top of her voice. Everyone stared and gave a few smiles. She must have been listening to me more than I thought she was!!

Re: Tell me your silly stories

OMG classic!! @Snowie thanks for sharing!

You just reminded me of the fact that my mum grew up thinking that the word 'fart' was a swear word. She would say 'pert' instead. So one time when I said 'pert' to a friend of mine they had a good cackle at me because it was basically meaningless, but sounded so ridiculous.

i was in the toilet once at a shopping centre. The guy in the cubical next to me said in all solemnity "bye, bye little buddy", and then flushed...

Re: Tell me your silly stories

OMG so good @Jynx. Just imagining a lil Jynx stealing the limelight 🤣

I think all my family's funny moments revolve around ahem, farting. The funniest was my nan. She was so prim and proper, always dressed like a fabulous movie star even into her 80s. My mum took her to an appt one day and when the dr called her she stood up and just accidentally let one rip lol. My mum find farts so funny it makes her cry laughing. So they are both going into the dr's surgery awaiting very serious test results and my mum is crying laughing at my nan who had just let loose. My mum took great pleasure in regaling this to the rest of the family when she came home.

Great idea for a thread!!!

OMG @chibam that's hilarious!
