Okay ... found a chance at home .... 😊💕

Tales of Santirini .....

Something else Akrotiri tells us is that the style of building on the Greek islands, in the "cluttered" cave-like form that clings to the rocks themselves, creating the characteristic melding with the natural environment, has barely changed across thousands of years.

Such was h building technology of these early Greeks, that they were able to build buildings up to four stories high .... stone structures with suspended wooden floors. The kitchens were generally in what we would refer to as the basement, because the need for a stone hearth and heavy ceramic storage vessels meant they were located where there didn't need to be a load-bearing consideration.

The upstairs furniture was made of wood, which of course disintegrated within the rubble, but it left a space, locked into the ground, that archaeologists could fill with plaster to discover what had been there. It was the same principle used to "recover" the bodies in Pompeii. The occasional table image above demonstrates the elaborate wood carving they used in their furniture production.

Tales of Santorini. .....

Whether it was intentional or not, one of the benefits of the unstructured layouts of these ancient towns and cities was, during invasion or pirate attack, the streets were so maze-like, and full of stairs and unexpected twists, turns, variations in ground level, sunken gardens and outdoor living areas, cellars looking like homes, wells, goat tracks and animal pens, that the foreign invaders not only became disoriented and confused, but also separated from each other, vulnerable to attack by the towns-people, and vulnerable to injury by misadventure .....
