Hi @Former-Member ...,, 😊💕
Greece definitely has its beauty, but it has many faces .... there is a lot of disaffected youth here, and illegal immigrants etc. being a seat of free expression means that graffiti is rife as well. I am editing that out of my photos, because I edit it it out of my perspective on a daily basis as well .... I choose to only take in the more beautiful aspects of life here.
in saying that, I am also an artist, so I can appreciate that, as in Australia, a lot of the graffiti has a beauty to it, in that ipeven the more basic forms still contain some skill in artistic impression. There is very little, comparitively, that is actual rubbish, and I wish that, as is happening in Australia, the talent that is on the streets could be harnessed into community art projects, whereby the graffiti artists are employed to decorate areas of community interest with tastefully intriguing artwork. It would make a real difference here. There is an inherent interest in music, art, philosophy, public speaking, languages .... the arts in general ... which is part of their historical context.
I will post some photos of buildings of different eras as I go along. For a wide variety of reasons, old buildings are often just left .... this country's economy had been devastated by WWII and civil war that followed, and the scarring from that time is still evident. There is such a mixture of old and new at all levels of society, that you have amazing new buildings not far, or even next to, crumbling ones from 50, 100, 200, 300 years old .... right through to ancient ruins. Then you have some ancient stone buildings still in use .... particularly churches, which can be up to 1000 years old.
