@Faith-and-Hope Had some pretty disappointing news yesterday. I will no longer be teaching Art from next year. The Principal wants me on a class full-time with some trickier kids coming through. She praised the work I had done over the last year and a half but in order to have consistency with some of these kids she is reducing the part-time teachers on classes. She wants to place a lot of these trickier kids with me and whilst it is a massive vote of confidence in me being the teacher she wants to work with these kids, right now I just feel disappointed and flat about it all.

Right now it is just one more hit in a long line of hits. I have been trying to look forward and see the silver linings but am pretty much consumed by the disappointment right now. I feel like a pinball being pushed from one side to the other and not being able to actually breath in between If I didn't have my fur babies right now I think I would give up 🐶😺💖

I am so sorry @Zoe7 as I know how much you have put into the art classes you teach. Is this negotiable?

I am with @Snowie on this @Zoe7 ..... I feel for you so much Hon. I agree that it is wonderful your gift for teaching higher needs kids is being acknowledged, but it is at the cost of your art teaching recognition.

I have a couple of suggestions that I hope work for you.

Are you able to request a pay increase if you are working so specifically with special needs kids ?

Special needs kids respond well to art as a medium, so perhaps tgere are ways to incorporate art into all areas of the curriculum in your classroom, for teaching maths, English, science, social sciences, health, etc ...... all the kids in the school will want to be in your class, and perhaps you can develop an art-based teaching program - and sell it !!!!

And no extra pay @Faith-and-Hope but I don't do it for the pay ...otherwise I would have quit a long time ago. I have never wanted to move up the ladder as I have always been in it for the teaching - any leadership roles takes you further away from the kids and that does not interest me at all.

I do hear you about incorporating art into all other areas - I have always done that ...and yes most kids not only love it but thrive in that environment. It is going to be so hard not teaching across all grades though - I have become very fond of all the kids in all grades. I know they will be disappointed too

It is going to take me time to process - and also some time to get back into the day to day clssroom routines. I have a lot to do in order to be back on class full-time as that itself is a bit daunting - but I will et there 👍
