Oh yes, you are Right @Zoe7 They really Do think it's Christmas, or the Promised Land, or the Land flowing with Milk & Honey (or something like that) - When any of my Birds escapes.

You should have seen the Fishers Lovebird flying around the kitchen (some months ago) - Cheep, cheep, Whoopee....

No they don't want to go back in - even though they'll die of thirst & starvation, if they stay out.

I always have to get my Bird Net, I cannot catch them otherwise.

Plus Budgies & Lovebirds Bite, so sometimes have to put Leather Gloves on first....

Re: Far and Away

Yes that's true @Zoe7 Thanks for your kind affirmations.

I've got the 6 week Census Field Officer Job coming up, in just under 4 weeks time.

Unfortunately it's just 6 weeks (temporary).

DES jobsearch provider wants me to do Traffic Management Course - 6 days of training.

I said yes, as long as (if) they can postpone me until October - After my Census job.

They said they think they can - I shall have to wait to find out.

Re: Far and Away

Without sounding dismissive @Adge but is that all they can find for you???? What would the traffic management course entail?

You will be gret with the census job - it is monotonous work but from everything I have learnt about you over the years - you are good with people so even though it is only for 6 weeks I hope you enjoy it

Those damn sneaky birds lol I can imagine them flying around like Tweety bird - loving their freedom and not wanting to get back in the cage - thank goodness you have a net and gloves. We need to get some for our classrooom - we have had 3 birds fly in and not been able to get back out in our class and the class next door already this year. I have got them out everytime - apparently I am the brd whisperer lol All I have done is throw a jacket or blanket over them and carefully picked them up but of course now I have a reputation to uphold LOL

Re: Far and Away

You're the "Bird Whisperer" @Zoe7 Yep, I love that...

I once crawled across bitumen Carpark on all fours - going "Tweet tweet" to an escaped Cockatiel.

To get his confidence, to get up close enough to use that Jacket Trick.

Escaped pet birds don't survive (usually).

I got him! About the only time I ever actually caught an escaped Pet bird - Several canaries I tried to catch, just flew away (never to be seen again).

That was Woo Woo my favourite Wolf-Whistling Cockatiel - He's been gone for over 10 years now.

I just had a late night grocery delivery - several hours later than it was supposed to be.

Putting it all away at Bedtime, not working so well.

Traffic Management Course - I don't really know the specifics of what it entails.

A lot of Safety Training Inductions (2 days) + White Card (1 day) for Construction Sites.

That's part of it.

Rather menial, probably even Lower Pay than the very Low Pay that I'm used to.

Not using my Skills or experience (at all).

They guarantee on-going work, maybe several days a week - At the end of it.

So that's about the only Bonus.

DES Jobsearch Provider seems Only Primarily interested in Getting me into Any Job At All ASAP.

If I get some/ any employment directly through them - which Traffic Management Course is, or Leads to - Then they get paid $1000's from Fed Gvnt, for having placed me that Job (position).

Whereas they get no $$ at all for me having got that Census Field Officer Job all by myself.

Which explains why they were totally Disinterested & gave me no Congratulations (or anything) - When I told them I had actually got the Census Job (& Signed the Contract).

It's all about how much $$ they get....

Re: Far and Away

I see the job agency system as another of our broken systems @Adge because Yes it is all about the money they get and that more than often actually gets in the way of matching people with appropriate work. Then you have some politicians and Centrelink saying you should accept any work - without taking into consideration your physical and.or mental wellbeing in the process. It is all about numbers - employment numbers, payment numbers and reaching targets - where is the humanity in that????

I love hearing about your stories of your birds - you have such passion and love for them. I would love to have an aviary myself but it is just too cold here in winter and there is no way Toby would like any birds inside - he would rather chase them but has never actually tried to catch one.

Re: Far and Away

@Adge My loungeroom looks like a cyclone has gone through a toy shop - Toby has decided to pull out half his toys and then went to sleep lol

Re: Far and Away

Ooh Cyclone in a toyshop @Zoe7 That is an interesting Picture.

Jell Cat does not like putting anything away either.

Sneaky Jelly found ways to pop the kitchen cupboard doors (at cat height) open - during the night while I'm asleep.

So that she can get in & walk around inside the cupboard.

If she did that when I'm up, I could stop her.

Nothing exciting for a cat inside the Cupboards- it's Crockery.

But I don't want her breaking it...

Re: Far and Away

haha @Adge naughty Jelly cat Clover loves to explore in cupboards if I leave doors open for a minute. Cat never did that but she also had her own room so she was very much spoiled. Clover shares everything with Toby - bed, couch, my room, etc. She made her way up onto the dining room table a few weeks ago - I left the chair out so she used that to get up - I got her straight down because that was Cat's place - not sure what I will do now but probably a good idea not to let her up there again because she does like to play - Cat would just sit there and leave everything alone.
