How to cope? TW DV and sexual assault

How to cope? TW DV and sexual assault

I have left DV over a year ago now, but I'm still not coping. I'm really not coping. How have others managed to get through difficult times when memories of sexual assault/rape, manipulation, fear, anger keep coming up. How do you keep going?

I would have panic attacks but what I learnt helped was to not let my past define who I am and i also did a group called shark cage that taught me how to build up my self confidence as well as taught me how to accept that "yes I was in that situation but I'm not now and I am safe" I would highly recommend it to you it's by Ursula benstead. I truly hope this helps and just remember your strong and amazing keep your head up hun your crown is falling queen

Hey @Former-Member I'm so sorry you're struggling with this. I can imagine it might feel really scary to still be feeling the impacts a year later. I think it can definitely take time to move through the intensity of the aftermath. Do you have much in the way of professional mental health support? Finding a therapist who specialises in trauma, PSTD/C-PTSD, and in supporting victim-survivors of DV, could go a long way to help you both process the emotional side of things, as well as developing strategies to help you cope and regulate your emotions when things get overwhelming.

We have some tips for coping with flashbacks here, and you can also always give 1800RESPECT a call to talk to a professional who specialises in supporting people who have been impacted by DV. There's also a list of support and resources for sexual assault here. You don't deserve to be alone in this. Sending some hugs for you hun 💜

Thank you. I have a good psychologist but random things can happen that bring up memories and feelings. It's harder to cope than I thought it would be
