Hey @Minjo50 ,

I'm sorry to hear that you have a child showing narcissistic traits. Just to clarify, what are some of the things that you are having trouble with?

The reason I'm asking is because Narcissistic Personality Disorder was removed from the DSM as a 'real' mental health condition a number of years ago - probably hence the non-diagnosis. While people may have traits of narcissism, I'm wondering what you see as narcissistic?

No doubt it sounds these personality traits have affected you and your family.

Waiting to hear from you,

tyme

Greetings. Similar information, with a brief twist.

No person can remain on a negative level. I even scratched my chin as to who would have told you a person cannot change without a desire/want.

Every negative or positive behaviour is dictated by a trigger.. and similarly can be altered/adjusted by another.

This person is clearly affected and/or asking for resolution or assistance.

Seeking information or attempting to understand those influences is key to resolution. No person/child/human chooses to be above or below the accepted norm.. as all of our choices are influenced by our experiences.. and somewhat compounded by our genetic disposition.

I suggest an honest conversation. Whether late or inappropriate. Remember, this person is your child. Our choices, be them sometimes annoying to others, quite often lead to peace. And only in briefest of moments assist a breakdown between familial members,.. because in a familial situation, we honestly already know the problem in our heart.

All the best. 😉

Grandiosity
Self righteous all mighty
No respect
Only for me,me,me to no end
Arrogance
All that we have is only his/hers
And that became abnormal and hard to tolerate
Cant keep job and always demanding lot more than employers offer
Thinks he is the only best in everything but
To get you (us parents now is direct I want)
Women treatment like slaves etc

Yeah, okay. Sounds like this person has some form of self preservation in effect. But, our comprehension of other peoples behaviour can easily be misinterpreted, especially if the observer is experiencing personal conflict. I'm not insisting this is indeed the case, but you must be objective and rule out any potential influences of say, bias.

Other than that, I can honestly continue with a summation of my own history, as that is the primary basis and mold I have available.

Most of my life, yes, grandios expectations of my future and my presence.. due to my knowledge and above average intelligence. Just ask me. 😎 Nowadays.. I really don't much care, because the child-like imaginations of a perfect world has been replaced by 40 years of reality.

Respect? No.. only ever respected other people if they were intelligent.. used it appropriately and believed we would conquer the universe.

Arrogance? Doesn't the above kind of cover that!?

Keeping a job? Very hard for me, because when I work, and I have had some grand experiences and top coin.. I work hard and precisely. When I witness either management or co-workers taking the piss or generally being otherwise in the best direction of the company, I get the major s**ts. And I really don't care what their position is. To me, you're a human, with a direct task and expectations... get it done.

Best in everything? Not by a long shot. I could easily hold conversation with a nuclear chemist, general practitioner, psychologist, psychiatrist, barrister, police officer and a butterfly.. but definitely not the greatest. Nothing wrong with a heightened sense of self though,.. is generally healthy.

Now that is typed out, I can now explain that my social difficulties, as they are perceived, was simply a product of surviving mass abuse and attempting to prove I was above what I understood was a far less than acceptable level of respect for my existence.

It just so happened that I was straight A's but discovered the depth of societies dark cloud. Since a very young age, I have been disturbed by human history and modern adaptations. I have since realised that my sadness and inability to accept a somewhat symbiotic relationship with a strive towards extinction leaves me with nil other option but to dream and accept my inevitable end, as if I never existed. I have no problem with that, because, there are a great many other things I am aware of.

To sum it up my unknown friend.. there's always a simple reason for every behaviour.. it is our pure nature. We are not born with arrogance or racism, it is an adaptation to external influence or impressed upon us.

It would give me mild nightmares to consider validating the possible birth of natural born extremists and the like...

Food for thought mate.. as some say.

😉
