Dysphagia

Dysphagia

Tw: mention of suicide and medical complications

noun: dysphagia: difficulty or discomfort in swallowing.

I developed dysphagia as a result of a suicide attempt last year and on monday I had another attempt where it's now flared up to the point of being nearly back to where I was 6 month ago with my swallowing. I'm back on a puree diet and thickened fluids. This is really disheartening to me, i am not even able to drink a glass of water. I have gone so far back and I don't know if it will improve again.

The dysphagia and the modified diet has caused rapid weight loss which is triggering my eating disordered thoughts of which I had recovered from years ago.

How am I supposed to get back on track when I can't even have a simple pleasure such as a good coffee or a piece of chocolate, or even just something solid to start with.

Re: Dysphagia

@Bow I'm due to see speech tomorrow. As I'm clinically overweight now the nurses don;t care about my eating, so no referral was sent through.

I just saw speech pathology. I feel so disheartened. I did some trial of thin fluids and just couldn't. I'll be going home eon thickened fluids and puree diet 😞

Edit: they won't refer to dietician.
