Losing time

Losing time

This is a thread dedicated to DID, but other forms of disassociation or mh related amnesia welcome to.

So random some questions thrown out there.

  • How do you cope with lost time?
  • Do you recover the lost time or try to?
  • What are you're go to strategies on managing forgetfulness (which is different to dissociative loss of memory)?

Feel free to add more.

Losing time is something I'm really struggling with at the moment. Everything feels weird. I don't remember yesterday happening, and I was shocked it was Friday.

There's so much happening for me that my reality is fracturing and dissociation is easier. I'm pretty scared. Some of my others aren't good people and I'm scared of them. I don't like it when they come forward. I can't remember so much of this last week. Or few months. It's hard.

Re: Losing time

Hi @The-red-centaur i don’t have DID but I do dissociate from time to time, more so when I’m dealing with trauma related stuff and when I have a lot of things going on.

The lost time is hard to deal with, I don’t try and get it back, just kinda learning to accept it. It was heaps scary when it first started happening. I had no idea what was going on. But my psychologist explained it to me and I get it. I get that it’s easier…. When things are overwhelming for me it’s easier for me too. I end up just letting myself float off. My psychologist encourages me to stay grounded though, but it’s hard.

I had a bad episode earlier in the week which landed me in hospital. It’s scary not remembering when I do things.

can’t imagine losing days though. That would be rough.
forgetfulness…. I’ve been making use of my phone calendar if that helps? I put all my appointments in there. Things I need to do. And I used a widgets app which puts a calendar on my Home Screen so I can see what’s coming up.
I also had ECT a few months back and was heaps concerned about memory issues, so I journaled every day.

Re: Losing time

Thank you @Bow

Dissociation can get really hard. I'm sorry you go through that too.

I do the same in my phone. I'd be lost without it. It helps writing everything I need down.
