Hopefully Streamlining

Hopefully Streamlining

I have a long history with the mental health care system. Beginning in 2003 with the CATT team

The last few years have complicated things, and added a few diagnoses. My care team can't agree on which ones fit. So, I have this ridiculous list of Dx, depending on which health professional is consulting. And add in a few "maybes" which I am expected to look into testing for

So, this coming Wednesday, I have a reassessment appointment with a Clinical Psychologist via telehealth. I have a different regular psychologist. She is mostly in the IFS/Humanistic school of not applying diagnostic labels. But chalks a lot of my experiences up to CPTSD

I'm hoping that on Wednesday, I can employ the KISS approach, and streamline to a shorter list. And hopefully a list which I identify with. I won't pay for a written report, just the verbal session

I do worry about clinical bias. The CP sent I think 19 written assessments to do in February, and they were heavily geared to his own research and personal interest areas. Clinical bias is a very real thing. The psychiatrist who added OCD to my list worked in an OCD specific clinic in Sweden. My regular psychologist's research area is Trauma

I have one cluster of symptoms which I particularly want clarity on. Which have been attributed to OCD, Schizophrenia, CPTSD, dissociation, and I forget what else

I don't hold high hopes for meaningful answers, but I have to try. Moreso than the ASD assessment which the hospital last year encouraged me to do

I have been reasonably stoic about the reassessment, until the last couple of days. Which have involved some PRN quietiapine to calm my nerves, but I hate taking

My regular psychologist supports me doing this. And assured me that I don't need to apologize to her for disloyalty

I don't know what I aim to achieve from this thread. My psychiatrist says that I rite as an OCD Compulsion. Nobody else in my team agrees with him

Sorry to vent. My family aren't known for their listening or empathy skills

Good luck with the streamlining process.

Gosh, @DogMan79 , I really hope you can get some clarity around your diagnoses...

Thank you

Clin-Psych agrees with schizoaffective disorder and CPTSD. Doesn't agree with the OCD diagnosis that the hospital added to the list

I mostly booked reassessment for one cluster of symptoms, which health professionals all link to what they happened to do their own thesis and research on

He suspects it's dissociative in nature. Personality intrusions along the lines of OSDD and some depersonalisation

I did a follow up Multidimensional Inventory of Dissociation. The long 218 item version, to discuss in the follow-up. And confirm or deny the OSDD

He also thinks that I might have something from the somaticisation disorders. Since I mentioned frequently forgetting how legs work

I'll discuss it all with my regular registered psychologist on Wednesday. It makes more sense to me than OCD or some of the other theories which have been thrown at the intrusive experiences

I guess that I will be funding holidays for my regular psychologist for a long while, with no medications to treat dissociative disorders

Hi @DogMan79

I wonder how you went with getting a more clear diagnosis?

I did some reading and found it interesting that some psychs believe there's a sliding scale between bipolar on one end and schizophrenia, with schizoaffective disorder inbetween.

Since I have been diagnosed with bipolar 1 - I'm starting to get and idea of what this means for me. And watching out for more serious symptoms.

One thing I'm curious about, and excuse me for sounding naive, but I'm not sure what the psychosis experience is like... or, put another way... maybe I am aware of what it's like and I just think it's normal (like the rest of my diagnosis so far).

Like, hallucinations (sure, doesn't everybody have voices in their head sometimes?), paranoia (sure, I live with the doors shut and blinds down all the time), delusional beliefs (well, pretty sure I have a few consipiacy theories, but doesn't everybody?).

Not trying to steal your thunder... I'm just trying to understand my own situation and it seems there may be some crossover here. Hoping you can shed some light?

Cheers,

~ K
