My doctor has been working on figuring out if I have ADHD and I was wondering if anyone has any ways to assist living with it? Or any coping strategies. I'm still in school so if there is any way I can keep focused in class and find motivation for study it would be great.
It seems that when life throws a new bend in your road it can help to lean into it sometimes...

Re: How would I live with ADHD
Hey @Sky6 I have ADHD and have my whole life although diagnosed when I was a teenager Its not an easy thing to live with you and you have to learn so much about how your brain works, because they are all different. It also depends on what kind of ADHD you have, they class what used to be ADD in the ADHD bracket now as far as I’m aware, so not everyone with ADHD has hyperactive elements, some are mostly attention deficet. Im a bit of both, Im also no professional… just a person with experience.
Im happy to go into more detail, but some things just off the top of my head that have helped me function as an adult with a full time job, healthy relationship and small children.
- Visual reminders/communication My partner and I set up a life admin system, when something needs to be done we write in our book that lives at the end of our kitchen bench (or you could use the fridge but that’s covered in kids stuff for us) it’s mostly to help me. It means that instead of constantly sending texts, as soon as i remember something I write it in the book, it could be “I fed the dog 5:30pm” “tablet taken at 7am” “appointment tomorrow” etc It’s for both her and me, cause sometimes I can’t remember what I did 5 mins ago. We also tried a shared notes program on our phones but the attention deficit part of me meant that I read the notes and no information went into my head or I just ignored the notification, but hey you gotta try things.
- Being competley organised the night before where possible, when your exhausted it seems like it just won’t work but it means a majority of tasks are done before bed, no matter what. Things like lunches made, clothes in a pile. That’s kind of a non negotiable. It makes the mornings a bit easier when all you have to do is get everyone dressed, fed and go. I have been known to be up at 12am making lunch and drying clothes but they are things that just don’t happen in the morning. Im known to lose track of time pretty easily and get side tracked. - Noise cancelling headphones, I put these on sometkmes when my house is overwhelming me and I’m feeling over stimulated, my family is slowly learning that means I need some space, sometimes I put these on while I’m cooking and just tune ojtv - Having a little safe space I can go to in those moments I feel like I cant deal with the sensory overwhelm (for me it’s the garage, sometimes just outside).
Just a few things I hope that’s ok?

i also want to point out that all of these things took time ESPECIALLY the notes thing, Im getting used to it now though but still room for error, it works well for me because I can be told something 4 times and it just disappears from my head so just having it there helps, Im also a visual person, I prefer to read/look rather than take in information verbally
