Welcome and getting started

Living with DID/OSDD

Living with DID/OSDD

Hey, just found this forum, and I just wanted to try and reach out and see if anyone else has DID/OSDD, and has tips for just kinda. Living with it. I've known about the system since I was a little kid when the trauma was happening, but have only really realised it and started to heal a bit in the last couple years. It's just kinda weird, and it sucks (obviously), and I have tried to talk to my therapist about it when I first started communication with the others, and she just brushed it off and told me I was just making up things to be stressed about, but it's been a solid year and a half since then, and they're still here, and fronting, and helping. This has become a ramble, but I just would like any help/tips that you all have to offer in terms of dealing with trauma, DID, getting support, idk. Thank you<3

@Ocean-Blue, thank you so much, I'm trying to work on strategies right now, simply because I can't function with the level of awareness I accidentally unlocked lol.

Re: Living with DID/OSDD

Hey @Clowncar , I too unlocked this issue unexpectedly. I was in a session with my psychologist and said something and then went "Hang on. Where did that come from? I don't feel like 'I' said that." When it happened again the next week and was followed by an event, it was time for my psychologist to let me know what was happening. Unfortunately that was the week before she took 4 weeks leave, so I'm struggling alone for the moment.

I'm not sure if I'm allowed to recommend books on here. Can someone advise me on that?

I've found two books helpful, one was recommended by the Blue Knot Foundation and the other was given to me by my psychologist.

I hope you have access to support @Clowncar and just hang in there. I suspect once these things are unlocked they can't go back to being invisible. Not sure about that though. Good luck and I hope you keep posting. 🙂

Hi there @Ocean-Blue ,

Great to see you today.

In terms of recommending books, you definitely can! We’ll wait to hear from you to see what you’ve been reading.

Have a good day!

Re: Living with DID/OSDD

Thanks for that @tyme

The two books are:

Healing The Fragmented Selves Of Trauma Survivors

by Janina Fisher

Amongst Ourselves

by Tracy Alderman & Karen Marshall

The first one is written for all trauma survivors with a chapter devoted to DID. The second is all about DID.

I’m only at the beginning of this journey and I found both books full of information. The second one started at a place of already knowing, which I found confronting but as it went on it moved back to considering how it all works.

@Clowncar I hope this helps.

@Ocean-Blue Thank you so much for the recs! I've found Amongst Ourselves online to be purchased as an ebook, and I'm definitely considering buying it, it seems to be a really good resource.

I hope your recovery journey is good as well<3

Have a great day!
