Winter solstice

Winter solstice

Longest night of the year and the darkness and coldness have really hit. Things seem really bleak. I've been struggling for a long time and was pacing myself to this point but can't see beyond it. I'm safe but despairing. I'm trapped in a vortex of family dysfunction from earliest years and emotional pain, received and (mea culpa) inflicted. I can't help my closest sibling - all others are estranged - and I don't seem able to extricate myself from personal difficulties and dilemmas that at present ďefine me - I have no connections or other identity. I've lost faith in my mh team.

I guess the sun will rise tomorrow, and I'll keep taking one day at a time, but I can't envision a future, my future.

I understand, and this must feel really heavy for you... @Dimity 💛

I wonder what you can do to protect your heart right now?

Oh goodness, this is such a huge task. I would feel the same, that's so much to ask of someone to do on their own. Forgive me if I have already asked, but are they willing to spend a session identifying this with you, so you're held?

I am so sorry to hear about your cat - how is he at the moment?

And how are things sitting today? I know you mentioned in the intention setting thread that things were feeling very overwhelming.

Is your hospital visit for you or your fur baby?

Hello @AuntGlow

I'm a bit frazzled today.

The overnight hospital stay is for me. It seems I'm not allowed to say what it's for or why I'm fearing a relapse of my mh condition in the days leading up to it. Some of the realities of life on antipsychotics are taboo on the forums, leaving some of us unable to share experiences and support each other.

I've just had half a dozen or more calls about my eye condition, which is quite separate from the hospital admission. The gp is treating it as a potential emergency.

The cat is a little better on a very expensive longlasting pain med and getting an ear infection under control.

My psychologist wanted to input my troubles into ChatGPT for obtain recommendations but I resisted. She thinks getting a support worker would be helpful.

Sorry to list these woes. The psychologist suggested putting my other ongoing worries aside for now.

As usual I'll try to muddle through making a home for myself and the poor old cat. I have some new plants for the garden and I'll try to make more effort in the house.

Re: Winter solstice

Oh @Dimity ! Very sorry to hear all that.

Has your eye condition worsened? Or why is the GP treating it as an emergency?

I had no idea you couldn't talk about some things on the forums like you mentioned 😥

I'm also staggered that your psychologist wanted to look up ChatGPT! 😲

Re: Winter solstice

Hi @NatureLover

The eye thing is simple enough, just possible allergy to my eyedrops, but we're being super careful as my vision is already so badly compromised.

Yes antipsychotics can cause huge issues with metabolism, weight, blood sugar, gut problems etc etc. Any attempt to mention these or share ways of mitigating the problems strays into the vicinity of nutrition and exercise and all are strictly moderated as they're interpreted as threatening or triggering folks with eating disorders. I've had to take down or edit many posts.

It's odd to me that forums folk can mention SI abd SH provided they're not graphic but folks doing their best to live with psychotic disorders can't talk about this aspect and I'm sure it contributes to ongoing compliance with prescribed medications, And impacts morbidity and mortality rates.

I'm 100% sure this post will be closely scrutinised by the @moderator so we'll see what's permitted. I may have to take it down.

Re: Winter solstice

@Dimity I hear you and I know it can be frustrating and feel restrictive to work within the forum guidelines

Like with SI and SH, members can discuss diet and exercise in a general way, leaving out the details. If you're ever unsure of if something's okay or not you can shoot us an email, and if you feel like this is something that really needs to be reviewed then the best thing to do is to submit feedback through our feedback and complaints form

Re: Winter solstice

Thanks for explaining, @Dimity .

I really hope it's just an allergy to your eye drops. Are there other eye drops to possibly take?
