How Do I Manage Ambition with Bipolar I

How Do I Manage Ambition with Bipolar I

I realise there isn't a set 'bipolar' section of this website, so I hope I've placed this in the right place.

I recently ended a hypomanic episode through an increase to a medication to help me sleep, taking some things I'd started off my plate and reducing stimulation. Friends raised concerns with me, and fortunately I avoided creating mess to clean up this time.

Now that I'm well again, I'm curious about how to approach new projects without worrying people around me.

One project I want to do is an online store for a niche community selling print on demand products. If you aren't familiar with this, it's where someone purchases an item off your website and the order goes directly to a printer who sends the items to the customer. It enables me to use my advertising degree in a setting that won't stress me out; this is important to keep my bipolar in check. As a side hustle (I intend to keep my day job) with no overheads except the web hosting, I intend to use it primarily as a learning experience even if it isn't a successful venture.

So I guess my question is how do people suggest I handle any potential 'poo-pooing' of my idea? Constructive criticism is welcomed, but it would upset me if people tried to use my mental health as a reason I should be limited to an unchallenging 9-5.

hi @Tamworthian and welcome

Honestly if your really keen and passionate about starting this new side hustle then i say go for it. i dont believe mental health should be a reason to keep you from doing something that you want to do.

mental health can make it hard to cope but honestly if you find enjoyment in it and its something you really want to do then i would give it ago. maybe start small, give it a trial run and see how you go. alot of people have small bussinesses these days that they manage around their other job or family commitments
