feeling stuck

feeling stuck

I don't know what to do or where to get help. i've been working with my CPTSD stuff with my psychologist but i'm not able to see her to August now. I feel like I need someone to talk things through with but don't have anyone I can talk with that has an understanding of mental health stuff. i've been getting triggered at work and feel stuck in how to prevent it. Part of my job is sitting with people while they are watching a video, so I can't really talk with them or distract myself. Whenever I have too much time to think or my brains not busy doing things I get anxious and that often triggers the trauma memories. The problem I have is I need to be watching videos with people every week and i'm getting more trauma memories and feeling like i'm back in an unsafe place, it feels like i'm going to be hurt again. I was using my phone to distract myself but I got into trouble for having my phone and I didn't explain about the anxiety and my need to be doing something instead of just sitting there. Now I don't know what to do to reduce the anxiety or even not have the trauma memories come up. I'm feeling alone and stuck and just don't know what to do. Sorry if it doesn't make sense I think I just needed to be able to talk about it.

Re: feeling stuck

Hey @peps ,

I hear what you are saying and it is very valid to have those apprehensions and anxieties.

I'm also thinking, couldn't this 'new' psychologist be part of your treating team? From my experience, the more the people work together, the more tailored and holistic your care can be - correct me if I'm wrong.

I hope you get the support you are looking for. You don't have to do this alone.

Also, in terms of 'Part of me feels like I need to start over again so people can't judge my mental health". What do you mean by 'start over'? Get a new job? Move away?

No pressure to answer if you don't feel up to it.

Re: feeling stuck

@tyme I feel like I need a new job, i've already had too have time off for my mental health and it just feels like i'm also the person needing time off. I don't want to be someone that is unreliable and it just makes me more anxious when I have to explain why I'm not at work, or way i'm panicking and in tears. I'm not sure how to manage it all and deal with the guilt when i'm not able to work.

Re: feeling stuck

Makes sense @peps . Would it be an option to start looking? Sorry, I don't know your circumstances and whether it is feasible for you to change jobs.

It's important you feel safe in your workplace. From what I gather, there's a worker shortage in many industries. Use this to your advantage if you are able.

I hope you find a job you love.

@tyme

I have sort of been looking and I did apply for one job which is closer to home. The problem is they asked about medical conditions and I said I had some. I think that was the wrong thing to tick yes to and feel like I should have said nothing. I just feel confused because I feel like starting again now might mean I just keep having the same problems. I just can't seem to get my mental health under enough control that it won't affect my work.

Re: feeling stuck

Ahhh @peps , makes sense.

So what came first? The chicken or the egg?

That is, do you think work is affecting your MH, or your MH is affecting your work?

@tyme

Im not totally sure what's causing the issue. I did change jobs and the job I currently have has been better on my mental health than the previous. Plus I'm only working part time has helped. Not really sure what else to do.

Re: feeling stuck

Hi @peps

I respect your self awareness.

You did make a change to things.

The new job is better on your mental health. Great.

Working Part time. Great.

Not sure what to do?

What interests do you have? (You do not have to answer)

Can you spend so many hours a week on looking after you?

And to answer part one of @tyme

The Chicken did come first.

So it would be good to hear if it was the anxiety or the job. Interesting

@Former-Member

I don’t really have a lot of interests but part of that is depression and not having the motivation to really do anything. I also have one friend so not a lot of social thing’s happening. I feel like I save all my energy for work that when I get home I have no energy left to do anything.

Re: feeling stuck

LOL @Former-Member , yes, I say the chicken came first too 🙂

However, in this instance @peps , putting things in place to better support your mental health would be great. Just because it is difficult now, it doesn't mean it will stay that way forever.

Perhaps setting yourself small achievable goals is a good start? e.g. rather than thinking "I need to be better and working full time by the end of the year", break it down to, "I'm going to work on XYZ this week/day/hour"

Practice that self-compassion. Speak to yourself like you would your younger self.
