Something’s not right

Can't get up

Can't get up

Hello,

I am house-sitting at my neighbour's house, and for some reason, I have nose-dived into a really dark place. The house itself is colder and darker than mine, but for some reason, I can't get motivated to do anything at all.

A walk to a park or to get a coffee feels like a Herculean effort. But I know I need to do it, or I will just spend the whole day doing nothing.

It seems so strange. I am in the same building, just downstairs, but this change in environment has left me feeling so utterly bleak.

I just need the tiniest push to do something that feels good. But I can't!!

Hope you are having a better week!

Cheers,

Sol

Re: Can't get up

@sol_87 @I'm studying a bachelor in website design online. I knew some coding but It's great to stretch the creative side and get a grounding in good design and all the tools out there.

Early days yet but it has kept me going when little else did.

I need to use my brain cells for something other than anxiety.

But if you haven't studied for a long time It's worthwhile starting at TAFE. It took me a long time to get my learning skills back after 10 years of illness and heavy meds. Just being able to focus for the hour long classes was really really hard to start with.

I started just being happy to get through a subject. I still really struggle to finish a subject when especially sick but when I do I generally do pretty good.

The first thing is to find something that you are really interested in.

The most important thing is to stick with it and keep picking yourself up when you fall.

Do you have an idea of what you want to study?

Roast Chicken was yummy if a bit salty. Veggies were already roasted and just heated up so not too complicated.

Chicken Parma sounds yummy too.

Thanks so much, @Maladict

I think you make a good point. It is oh so easy to keep pushing ourselves, and telling ourselves that it is not good enough. But being compassionate with ourselves has a much better impact.

I will try to remember to congratulate myself when I do something positive. I am in such a groove of telling myself how things could be better though. It is a kind of addiction of sorts. 😉

How are things with you right now?

Thanks again,
Sol

Thanks so much, @Little_Leopard

I do feel a little better this evening. Thank you.

And yes, I think the forums are a really positive form of social connection, even though we aren't talking in person. It is still a powerful form of connection.

How are you doing today?

Re: Can't get up

Nice @Gillie1 - I have been studying web design too and work in this area now. I have been working in the field for about the past 12 years. It is fun.

I wish I had learned more about design, but I have learned so much on the job while I have been doing it.

I hope you love it.

Your dinner sounded nice! I am going to make pesto-roasted chicken with veggies tomorrow night I think!

Take care of yourself!
Sol

So great to see you online and connecting with others @sol_87 . For me, I know back when I was a regular forums member, connecting with others really did support my mental health.

@sol_87 @It is fun and always changing. I'm studying now in the hope that I'll be well enough to work when I'm skilled up. Sounds like you are all up on the focus thing. Do you have an idea of what you want to study further?

Re: Can't get up

@sol_87 Yes and sometimes there is an ease in not having to have the in person contact. It there is no pressure to mask hide things about yourself.

Im having a really good night, thank you. I have had some intense days and I’m starting to relax. I’m proud of myself for sticking it through and starting to feel good.

what things do you usually do to get through harder times?

What are you up to tonight?

Re: Can't get up

As my world gets darker, and smaller and colder, it gets harder to get up and get moving. Walking to the shops feels like some kind of Herculean effort. It is so not like me.

And my whole body aches with a kind of malady that is familiar and yet surprising in its force.

The urge to 'do nothing' all day is not going to help this mood to lift. But neither is continuing to live my life in this way.

Something has to give.

Re: Can't get up

I'm completely at the moment.

Joined SANE to - I guess - create an emergency kit of sorts, to help support myself and my daughter through the rough spots.

Best to do it when things are good, right?

Saw that you were struggling and related so I wanted to help.
