Can't get up

Can't get up

Hello,

I am house-sitting at my neighbour's house, and for some reason, I have nose-dived into a really dark place. The house itself is colder and darker than mine, but for some reason, I can't get motivated to do anything at all.

A walk to a park or to get a coffee feels like a Herculean effort. But I know I need to do it, or I will just spend the whole day doing nothing.

It seems so strange. I am in the same building, just downstairs, but this change in environment has left me feeling so utterly bleak.

I just need the tiniest push to do something that feels good. But I can't!!

Hope you are having a better week!

Cheers,

Sol

Hello @sol_87 commiserations. The best antidote to darkness is light - so that walk would be great. And the coffee would reward you for the effort.

Let us know on Walking for Wellness how you get on.

Best wishes

Dimity

Re: Can't get up

Hi Sol

I know the winter light makes it harder for me to stay motivated. A change in location, not being in your own place and a darker colder place, I can understand how that would effect your mood. Is there something you can do to self soothe that is a smaller step? Tea or coffee, soup something warming? Maybe music? Small steps? Once you are up and have the basics taken care of, a walk might be a decision you can make then? Most of all be gentle.

Let us know how you are going.

Re: Can't get up

Thanks so much, @Dimity - you are very kind.

My day did get better thanks. I do find that once I get into doing something work-wise, it makes me forget my troubles somewhat.

That is what happened today. I haven't been for a walk, but I am thinking of going for one now, maybe.

I hope tomorrow is a good day for you too!
🙂 Thanks again!

Re: Can't get up

Thank you for your kindness @Gillie1 - I appreciate it.

It is good to hear that you can relate to all of those factors leading to a darker mood.

Doing something small at work, turned into a few hours of work and that did help.
I also made myself a pot of soup, which I am proud of because it will be a yummy lunch for the next few days.

Overall, I feel a bit better - thank you. This forum is such a blessing. I really appreciate it.

How was your day?

Re: Can't get up

Hey @sol_87

I've been on holiday from Uni this week. I found out that I will get a credit on one subject even though I failed the last assignment, (apparently you can't cram 4 weeks worth of work into one day who knew).

But taking in the overall mark I still made a credit grade so that's a relief.

Been enjoying playing my Assassins Creed on the Xbox the last couple of days and spending time with puppy.

Trying to count the blessings as well as the hardship.

I have a roast chicken with homemade stuffing in the oven and veggies ready to go.

Great idea re the homemade soup. Warms the soul soup does.

It's great you were able to get so much out of a day that could have gone flat.

Take care.

Re: Can't get up

Hey Sol,

First of all, congratulations for making that effort when you so obviously find it hard to do so.

Being out of our own comfort zone can take an emotional toll as well as a physical one, and both can make you tired.

Keep at it, and give yourself a break. I know full well the negative things you're feeling, but congratulate yourself every time you do something positive - like you have all of us egging you on.
