My Place

My Place

Hi guys,

I just wanted to have a thread where I could talk about things that make me happy without bothering anyone else.

So on Sunday a week ago I planted some seeds into a metal tub. Some veggie seeds. Carrots, garlic chives and although it’s not the season for it I threw in some cucumber seeds.

Well yesterday, only a week after planting I noticed my first little green shoot. Then today, there are a bunch of green shoots. Funnily enough I think it’s the cucumbers that have come up first. I may have to make a cloche to help them grow in the cooler weather. The tub is sitting on a concrete path so hopefully that will help keep the soil a bit warmer. I moved them a bit more into the sunshine today as we noticed that the carport was casting shade on them quite early in the afternoon.

I am so happy to see their green little faces pushing up from under that dark earth. Gives me hope in all things. I love to watch things grow. It makes me happy to think that I have played a part in that.

Every day I water them and have a chat with them. How are you today my seeds? I hope that you will grow soon! Now I can encourage them to grow bigger and stronger.

I can’t wait to set up my other veggie garden and grow more things. I am especially looking forward to planting my tomatoes come spring.

Hi @Oaktree

It's so great to hear from you and to read about your garden. It sounds really amazing.

I'm also really happy to hear you're going well with volunteering at the children's hospital. What kid of things do you do there?

It's a funny thing trying to get used to our own company. I think I've mentioned before one of the reasons I always wanted a big family was to prevent me from feeling lonely but of course they grow up and do their own thing. Then you have no choice but to work out how to spend time by yourself.

Sending you hugs

Hanami

Re: My Place

@Oaktree your garden just continually wows me. I know from my parents patch how much love work and planning it takes to have such successful veggies, it's just amazing that you have so much going!

I have started some gardening! I've planted little mixed lettuces in two long planters, and I also put some thyme and rosemary in ceramic pots 🙂 I'm going to put basil in next but I need a nice big pot for it first because I want LOTS! I'm a basil fiend! And my dad has given me a big pot of garlic chives, so I've got a baby garden going on on my deck! I'd love to put in some tomatoes and other tasty things but I've tried before and the little native rats and possums just eat them all 😞 so thinking about some kale and beans next.

How have you been going?? Xx

Re: My Place

@tonys long timw no see, I've missed you too! I think I forgot to reply to a tag from you a while back, sorry mate, things have been nuts with constant Tafe work for a while now. Started semester 5 weeks late so I've been playing catch-up for a fair while. Final assignment submitted this morning and then a presentation tomorrow and I've officially finished my diploma! Who thought I'd ever get here? Not me! How are you doing mate?

Lotsa love and hugs xx

Re: My Place

Ooooh @Oaktree your garden sounds utterly amazing. It must be a huge amount of work, but so much healthy stuff and being out there doing and flourishing. My garden is much smaller, so I am also having to trim and prune. There is not that much space with adequate sun for vegies but I make the most of it. My cauli ... is heading up wonderfully. The broc less. I keep my phone and computer separate and dont access the forum from the phone. I think I did once. It is my way of keeping tabs on my computer use.

I am glad you are getting something out of your volunteering with the hospital. Often things can be triggering but if the triggers are small and you /we have enough good in your/our life, we can usually cope. Its when it gets out of control that it is hard. Then I really do need to turn within and do lots self care. I am feeling more able to ride the waves of life atm but still .... oopsies ... nothing is perfect.

Kudos to you ... for all you do. Hope hubby is good enough too.

Re: My Place

Hi @Oaktree

Thanks for the update.

I am glad you have found a place that makes you happy. Your garden sounds wonderful.

Sometimes we know ourselves the best, if volunteering makes you happy then continue it.

Take care 💗
