The orchid will be a while yet. The flower stem is very green but I can see the flower growing inside. Makes me respect the work of nature. Same with my tomatoes. Still hanging there getting bigger slowly slowly...

That's really great that you were able to get some pots off someone else's verge - that's good recycling - and then you left some for other people - which is really thoughtful of you.

I love it that you did some pollination of your cucumbers - the inside of a greenhouse might not have enough insects to do the job well - so that is fun - I know - have a story too.

Back in the days when we lived on a quarter-acre block we grew pumpkins from vines that grew out of our compost. I would pollinate the female flowers with the male flowers and then day by day check the pumpkins and cut off any that weren't doing too well to give the best ones the chance to be the best pumpkins and they were.

One year I only had one growing a pumpkin and after a few wet days I went out to look and it had gone! I wondered if anyone had pinched it - but searched through the unkempt grass at the back of our lot and found it - growing excellently - and that was a great pumpkin.

My gardener came in yesterday - everything looks so good and so green - I have a bunch of new geraniums growing self-sown - and the gardener had weeded but left them - and he pulled out a lot of over-grown plants as well.

That's awesome re pots @Oaktree! and I can tell you right now that homegrown cucumber is sublime, my mum grows them sometimes. You're going to be in heaven!
