My Place

My Place

Hi guys,

I just wanted to have a thread where I could talk about things that make me happy without bothering anyone else.

So on Sunday a week ago I planted some seeds into a metal tub. Some veggie seeds. Carrots, garlic chives and although it’s not the season for it I threw in some cucumber seeds.

Well yesterday, only a week after planting I noticed my first little green shoot. Then today, there are a bunch of green shoots. Funnily enough I think it’s the cucumbers that have come up first. I may have to make a cloche to help them grow in the cooler weather. The tub is sitting on a concrete path so hopefully that will help keep the soil a bit warmer. I moved them a bit more into the sunshine today as we noticed that the carport was casting shade on them quite early in the afternoon.

I am so happy to see their green little faces pushing up from under that dark earth. Gives me hope in all things. I love to watch things grow. It makes me happy to think that I have played a part in that.

Every day I water them and have a chat with them. How are you today my seeds? I hope that you will grow soon! Now I can encourage them to grow bigger and stronger.

I can’t wait to set up my other veggie garden and grow more things. I am especially looking forward to planting my tomatoes come spring.

I love having you in my garden @Zoe7

Nothing too exciting happening garden wise lately.

Weather is miserable for the forseeable future.

Looking forward to some sunshine.

Hi guys,

Did you know that you can actually eat carrot leaves? I found this out yesterday. I am currently growing some so when I harvest I am going to try it out. You can use them in salads, cut it up and use it as you would parsley or sprinkle over roast vegetables. Or you can google a recipe for carrot top pesto. I am thinking that I would like to try out the pesto. Sounds interesting!

What have you guys got going on? Life is a bit slow in my garden at the moment. Everything is quite small. The lettuce is ready to eat though.

Re: My Place

Jealous of your lettuce @Oaktree! I am yet to sow mine, other things keep getting in the way! Nothing better than picking some home grown lettuce for a salad! Xx

Re: My Place

Yep @Oaktree I knew about carrot, beet and celery tops. Hongerwinter in Holland made my mother's side very frugal and switched on re edible over traditional or tasty....priorities re food.

My lettuce are doing well enough for me to have made a salad with them, and my red cabbage has headed up really well. Been doing coleslaw atm but bought from shop.

I have been doing a lot of pruning and cutting bcack. Not something I have done a lot of, as mostly been trying to get things to GROW! Must have succeeded enough as I am finally enjoying the CHOICES I have re trimming a bit of this and letting a bit of that remain ...

Lovely to hang out on your thread a bit.

Cheers Apple
