Support for puppy if I go to hospital.

Support for puppy if I go to hospital.

I am getting a new dog soon and need to put a plan in place for when I'm in the hospital for a few hours or a few weeks. I never really know when I go in what it will be. I used to have an older dog and if I went in for a stretch my Mum would come down to pick her up. I'm getting a puppy soon who will be more reliant on me and I can't expect that of Mum anymore either. I have NDIS support but am not sure how that can help without allocated funds.

Before giving my coordinator more work to do I thought I'd ask people on here what they do in similar situations. I want the best life for my puppy but have to recognise my reality at the same time.

It's good to think in advance @Gillie1 . Dogs can be a lot of work, but they can make a world of difference to someone's life.

Perhaps you can look in your local area to see if they have doggy daycares. The fancy ones are quite costly, but there are some people who care for them in their own home. I know I have a local one and it's about $50 a day. They also do weekends and overnight if needed.

I don't have FB, but maybe such services are advertised there?

Hi @Gillie1 A new puppy is exciting and looking forward to put things in place in case you are unwell and need someone to care for your puppy is a very wise decision. Have you thought about contacting the RSPCA and/or you vet - both should be able to suggest (and even help) with short term accommodation if needed.

Thanks that's a good idea, I've found a pet sitter site that seems kosher too. They match pets to sitters who suit them. I'm thinking of doing a meet and greet with a couple and maybe a few bookings so they can get to know each other beforehand.

Mum is getting on and lives 4 hours away now so she isn't really an option anymore, but I might talk to her current foster mum who is quite attached to her. I'm really quite excited now I want to train her as a Mind Dog so she can accompany me out and about. I found with my old dogs I was a lot less anxious being out in the world because I had to focus on them, they were sort of a filter between me and the world. Plus having companionship when at home. She has a wonderful temperament gentle and calm especially for a puppy.

Easy done @Gillie1 It is not always the first thing on our minds.

What breed of puppy are you getting?

@Former-Member @Zoe7

Edited I'll remember eventually lol.

She's a staff cross from an animal rescue group. She's been brought up in a wonderful foster home and is about 4 months old no

I enquired about another pup she had but she said that pup was too excitable and suggested Cookie.

For me its all about temperament and intelligence and she has both. I've met quite a few great staffy's so I'm really happy with her.
