Welcome and getting started

BPD

BPD

Hi All,

I am new. I have not posted before so a bit anxious around it.

I was diagnosed with BDP a few years ago alongside Bipolar, PTSD and anxieties.

I still do not know much about BPD. I finally have an appointment with a new Psychiatrist coming up in a month and I'm hoping it helps.

Does anyone else feel isolated, alone, judged and labelled with BPD? Since the diagnosis I feel like that is who I am now.

And all these emotions keep floating to the surface and I don't know how to deal with them.

I seem to self destruct at any time. I'm always pushing people away, distancing myself and keeping a wall up, which I have come to understand is a way for me to protect myself.

I guess I'm looking to see how many others feel this way or do this aswell. I hate feeling alone.

Re: BPD

hi, @Butterflysweet

I don't have BPD. I do suffer anxiety, depression, and DV related trauma.

And I do feel alot like you described. Not so much alone, though, but incredibly lonely - if that makes sense...?

Re: BPD

Hey @Kyle1 I understand what you mean. What do you do to feel not alone?

@Butterflysweet

I am around people. I am talking with people, like here at Sane Forums alot. There are plenty of people who are experiencing wrecked nerves and isolation like me. In this way, I am not alone.

But ever so lonely, still...

There's a difference. It's kind of like having people you can relate to on the television. Compared to having someone sit with you on the couch... know what I mean?

I don't know: maybe that's not a good description... 🤔

Re: BPD

Hey there, thanks for sharing. I definitely feel this way too at times, so you are not alone. I think it is part of the illness to feel isolated, lonely, and stigmatized. I hope things go well with the new psychiatrist. For me, what has helped the most was doing an evidence based therapy (DBT), combined with a super supportive and understanding psychiatrist. And taking it one day at a time. Hope this helps!

Re: BPD

Hey @Butterflysweet

the things that you describe…pushing people away, putting walls up and distancing yourself…. I think they are pretty typical BPD traits. I believe a big thing for BPD folks is a huge fear of abandonment. So a lot of us push people away so that we aren’t first abandoned… if that makes sense?

I’ve found it really helpful to read up on BPD in the past. I was diagnosed many years ago, also have anxiety and C- PTSD. So I can relate. I don’t associate so much with my BPD diagnosis anymore cause my other diagnosis are more prominent. But I’m sure others here can relate.

There is also a great BPD thread Raising Awareness of BPD - Flipping the Script and @BPDSurvivor is a wealth of knowledge!
